Dorms at Andover

How are the dorms at Andover? Specifically male junior dorms. Should I be hoping for a certain dorm? I prefer dorm quality to proximity to classes (I like walks haha). Anyway, I like big dorms, lots of doubles, a nice common room and everything, etc. Any you guys can recommend? Thanks.

I’d like to find out, too!!

Buuump it up.

One of my sons went to Andover. It is a big school with many dorm houses so you may be close or far from classes. With sons who went to prep and having visited many schools and now colleges, rooms do not vary that much from school to school. Every school has some really nice dorms, some not so nice dorms and most are down the middle. My son had a very large dorm at Andover and was very happy there. Best food! Great teachers!

bump! I assume you mean freshman by junior. I too am sitting at a desk filling out housing forms and wondering whether I should ask for a dorm.

Yes I meant freshman. Andover classes are confusing… Haha anyway, I’m pretty sure I’m going to choose Rockwell now. Seems like a good fit for me. I was in your position a few weeks ago though!

b-b-b-b-bump
Any current students/parents have insights?

Does anyone have suggestions on dorms for lower girls? Is it possible to be put in a dorm with returning lowers, or do they tend to group you with new students?

Any insight of freshman boys dorms? Somebody? Anybody?

Where have the Andover students gone?

Ooh, so, The largest is Rockwell. Another mid size one is America House. Rockwell is all singles, A-House is doubles. Rockwell is in the quads, A-House in Abbot. I’m requesting abbot cluster because they have small dorms. IF u want larger dorms request rockwell. In abbot I know there is also Draper cottage and French House. I don’t know about the other clusters.

@eeliu1234 dunno

I chose Rockwell for its proximity to classes and size. Its location is REALLY convenient, and there are more opportunities for friendships with more people in the dorm (though I guess you become closer with everyone in a smaller dorm). Once I make a really good friend or two, from there I will apply to a dorm with him/them (probably to a smaller dorm). I wanted a double my freshman year, but then I decided that Rockwell seemed like the dorm for me, so I decided to go for the single. Plus, I feel as if I would get distracted trying to study with a roommate.

IMO

Silverstag, JackPa, we should email.

@FrenchGuy,
Think really carefully about requesting Abbot. The walk from A-House to campus is about 10 minutes. A-House is a great dorm, but think if it’s worth the walk.

When I toured andover I saw a clean and nice dorm, however my tourguide (who is from my country) told me that that bedroom was assigned to an specifical student who’s chore was to keep at clean and presentable for the tours, still it was nice.

Don’t sweat dorm selection like I needlessly did two years ago.

All the dorms at Andover are nice. Not “Oh my God, this is gorgeous” nice. More like, “Yeah, this is really comfortable and fun to live” nice.

Dorms can differ in architectural style and location. But the friends you make and the bonds you create in your dorm will matter most of all.

Besides, the dorms at Andover are generally nicer and larger than college dorms. So, don’t worry: you’ll be just fine no matter where you are placed.
