Have any recommendation on what you think are the best dorms at davis? Or which area is the best to live in?

i would want to live near segundo because its near the ARC and its not near the cow smells like Tercero. but my friends want to live in a suite together and i dont know if segundo offers them.

What are the general ranks in terms of dorms? I know that Segundo is widely favored as first, but what do people think are the second and third choices? I seriously have no ideas about any dorms other than Segundo, so I'd like to know this....thanks...

Cuarto is all suites, but is actually located off-campus - a bit further away from campus- however, I've known many students that have really liked it.

Tercero consists of many smaller dorms, plus a large brand new complex that will rival the popular Segundo infill dorms.

The newest Segundo "infill" dorms are cconsidered suite-like, with a group of 4 double rooms sharing a restroom and a socializing area off the hallway.

Segundo has a few "suite-like" set ups in the smaller dorms- with 2 double dorm rooms sharing a room that is a living area. Restrooms are common down the hall, however.

Most students do not mind the "cow" smell, and many of the Tercero dorms are not that close to the cows anyway. I've even heard students say they missed the cows after leaving. The dining commons is in the process of being updated and expanded.

Although Segundo is the closest to the ARC, Tercero is perhaps a two-minute bikeride further....

I think you'll find that there are positives to all the living arrangements, and that students will disagree on the ranking, if one were to be attempted.

I lived in Tercero my first year at Davis and I really liked it. It's a nice intimate environment because you basically get to know everyone in your building since there are only 3 floors. The DC food at Tercero is also considered the best. It only takes two minutes to bike to the Arc so it can't be considered "far." And although Tercero is close to the cows I heard that the wind wafts the smell to Segundo more! Also I would really recommend against living at Cuarto because it is too far and a lot of people regret living there their freshman year. Many people that live at Cuarto actually prefer to take the bus like students that live off campus! Also the suite style living arrangment really limits the amount of people you meet. Hope that helps!

Is there an Uno?

Uno? What's that??

The correct term for first would be Primero (or Primer), but as far as I know, there are no buildings at UCD with either of those names.
For people who don't know, Segundo, tercero, and cuarto mean second, third, and fourth, respectively.

did all of u got the housing thing already (from the mail i mean..)?

ya, and i did the online thing already

i sent the stuff we got through the mail to UCD and now i am just waiting until whenever we find out what we recieve.

My former English Teacher is a grad from Davis and he said Primero was torn down some years back... The only vestige of it are the Primero Grove Apartments...

The "infills" or "Clusters" at Segundo and the new ones at Tercero...are they considered suites or standard on the housing application? From what I understand their just double rooms clustered together...

Can anyone advise me on this?

I already hear a bias on Segundo and Tercero dorms, but I really want to know whether a quad or a suite is better. And what about the specialty and theme programs? Do they influence which dorms you stay at? The quiet room program sounds rather relaxing ... actually kinda boring but someone please enlighten me!

The special programs do influence where you go... For instance... the african american thing is in Segundo and the health and wellness program is in Tercero... chances are if you put the program HIGH on your list they will move you to the residence hall that the program is at... I place the program last on my list... I'd much rather have an extra long bed and the cluster set up then in say... the Davis honor challenge... If I require correctly, there are a few suites in Tercero, but most are located in Quatro. I think there is a plaza set up in Segundo for those who want to share in a community in the Segundo area but those are limited in number as well.

Is leadership in the segundo infill dorms?

so... if I wanted to make the infill segundo dorms would i just put cluster on the housing app?

there is no "Cluster" option on the housing application...

There is only "Standard", "Quad", and "Suite".

By definition and set up, the "cluster" is not a suite or quad...thus by laws of elimination it must be a standard type room. That's what I put down.

what if me and 2 other friends want to live in the same suite/quad/cluster but not be located in cuarto?

should we all put standard as our preference and also request each other as suitemates?

That would be a question which you would have to call housing for an answer to.
