Dorms at Mizzou

I start college in the fall of 2011 and I'm wondering what would be the best dorm to live in at mizzou? I really want to meet people so social is prefered, but I'd like it to be nice ("nice" for dorms that is) and coed too.

If you have been accepted and have paid your deposit, you will get housing informatino from Residential Life next month. They have a great website where you see the dorms by amenities.

[Department of Residential Life](http://reslife.missouri.edu/future.htm)

“The best” dorm depends on where you want to be on campus; if you want almost brand new or newly renovated, if you want suite living, single living or double with “gang” bathrooms down the hall; how close do you want to be to a dining hall.

I actually think too you’ll get your housing 201 packet regardless of wether youve paid your deposit. You need to pay your deposit of course to be able to sign up for orientation and to put down a housing deposit as well.

If you need help picking, then a good idea would perhaps be to see if there are any FIG’s that you would be interested in and choose from those dorms.

Actually it also may depend on what your major is too. DD picked a dorm with FIG’s in her major. A lot of it is luck on who moves in. In her dorm, her floor is the most social in the building and they hang out in the lounge alot. This doesn’t happen on the other floors so I really believe it just depends on who ends up around you. A lot of it is what you make of it.

Take a look around the reslife website. Its got a description of each dorm, how new or if it’s been renovated. The newer ones are really nice, but most of them by this point have been renovated. Location is key too. It depends on what your doing next year. Do you want to be near the frat’s/sororities, do you want to be near the football stadium, near the rec center, keep in mind how many dining choices are near you (winters are cold - so having more choices close can be nice), etc. Do you want community style (I’ve heard this can be good for making friends, although my daughter went with suite style and loves it - she hasn’t had any trouble making friends and her floor is very social and spends lots of time outside their rooms. You can keep the doors open with a door stopper).

Hope this helps some.

S1 is a junior at Mizzou and like the other poster said it depends on your FIG etc. All the dorms are nice and there are many new dorms on campus. Son is staying at Dogwood this year, which is newer and very nice. Location wise, it’s right next to the Rec Center and down from the new Student Center.

There are a number of dorm buildings in this area and I would strongly recommend this area due to the amenities around (Plaza 900 Cafeteria, Rec Center, Student Center) is also pretty close.

If you haven’t visited the campus, you should…of all the big universities we visited (between my S1 and D1), this one probably ranks the highest in upkeep, beauty and safety…

Also, Mizzou actually closes the campus off during the day to traffic for the students. May not seem a big deal, but visited Univ. of WI- Madison, and the traffic there (between students walking and cars speeding past the campus buildings etc) was a bit unnerving…

Anyhow, good luck to you…
