What are the "personalities" of the different dorms? Thanks.

I wrote this in another thread, note my perspective is as a parent:

"Like to be with lots of people with a more party-type atmosphere? Go for Southwest, plus the best dining hall is there.

Like a little more laid-back and quieter environment? Central or Northeast.

You might want to look at where most of your classes will be, and pick whatever is closest, to minimize your travel in the winter.

Also, sign up for the earliest orientation session you can. That is where you make your dorm selections, and it’s first-come first-served to some degree."

If you want to do a RAP or some other program, this will also control which dorm you are in.

Definitely try to live in any dorm in Southwest your first year. Central is more laid back and has a more “hippy” lifestyle feeling. Northeast is where a majority of the engineers live. Orchard Hill houses a lot of honors students, but it sucks walking up the hill. When I first came here (I’m a senior now) Sylvan was the worst dorm area to live in. The rooms are really small and no one wanted to live there. However, if you get your own suite with all your friends I heard it wasn’t that bad.

I was accepted into the commonwealth college for chem and was wondering where i should dorm as a freshman. I want a good work environment, however, I’m pretty big on partying
