Haha…yes…everything is heated, haha… That would be quite bizarre! The LA winter is chilly and rainy, sub-70 highs are normal and lows in the 40s are not uncommon.

Oh and I don’t think floor heaters are allowed.

If D brings a hanging-type mirror for the dorm room - aren’t there specifications on how to hang it? Nailing things is not allowed … Right? How do people hang things heavier than a poster?

The full-length mirrors the hang on the backs of doors are pretty popular.

The simple answer to hanging something heavier than a poster is that you don’t.

pins .

My S loved his stay at Pardee as a freshman. It was convenient, all the rooms have a safe in each closet, and his floor was the Great Outdoors Floor that was paired with a women’s GO Floor & they went on outings together, funded by student fees. He did have an excellent view of the Quad from his desk window, as did his room mate.

They also liked having a washer & dryer on each floor!

I’m staying at Birnkrant in the fall and I was wondering if there are any restrictions on appliances like a rice cooker or coffee maker.

Not allowed, but you could probably get away with them… keep in mind you’re going to have to have space for those appliances which will be at a premium in your dorm room, and also that in Birnkrant you’ll be living above a 24/7 coffee shop.

Do the dorms have internet access? Wireless?

Yes, all the dorms have wired internet and most have wireless.

What about TVs? Now, I’ve seen in the virtual room tours that they don’t have that, but CAN you? Like, if you buy one or bring one, is the a wire for TV connetction too? :)

Yeah, you can bring your own TV and plug it into the cable that they give you.

Yay, good! I can finally take advantage of the airing times of American television (Norway’s like half a season behind on everyting. If not more! If we’re even airing it at all! Like, Glee for instance… It came YESTERDAY! And I was actually kinda amazed by how fast we got it! :P)

i was wondering; can sophomores live in dorms, or are they limited to apartments?

also, whats the situation for transfers; how hard is it for them to get oncampus housing?

thanks in advance!

There’s no limitations as long as there is room.
as stated in [FAQ - Application and Assignments](http://housing.usc.edu/FAQ.aspx?fID=78),

the order of precedent is:

I personally know lots of upperclassmen who live on campus, but not sure about the transfer successes. I’m guessing it’s pretty difficult for transfer students, you should definitely look into apartments, there are lots of nearby options in all directions of campus. Search for old housing threads, they have covered any question you can think of about off-campus housing.

do any of the dorms have pools/spas nearby? at the CSU near me, they have a pool next to one dorm building and jamba juice at the bottom too. anything special like that?

also, how many people to a bathroom? are there bunkbeds? (i went to northwestern and stayed in one dorm and they had bunkbeds…but thats probably an odd question lol)

hmm…what else…is there food nearby? I get hungry after dinner sometimes but dont want to go out of the campus area. im from a small town and its scary to go out at night if i were in la! I think… unless ur with friends i guess…?

Flour Tower is the closest to the gym/pool and its right next to Jamba Juice. The campus is compact enough to walk or bike to it though.

The number of people to a bathroom depends on where you live. It can vary from 2 to 3 to 4 people to a bathroom in apartments and suites. In the traditional dorm style, you have communal bathrooms for everyone to use.

You can bunk your beds if you like for more room but they are not bunked when you move in.

Tro-Gro is open 24 hours for snacks and coffee. In the UV, there is a Denny’s, Subway, Wendy’s, and Burger King open late. There are also a lot of places open late on Figueroa that you can eat at.

woah that sounds good! I didn’t know it had all that…when i walked by (for a short time) i just went to a graduation, i didn’t see much nearby, but again, i was only there sitting in one place and walked back to the car after the ceremony.

I probably wont get in but its kool to see what other colleges have. I have a small chance, but most likely, its a rejection for me. my sat scores is an 1850 but ive heard of ppl who got in with that or less.

whats the difference between traditional style and apartment suite? which ones better?

A traditional dorm tends to be more social than an apartment. Its usually 2 people to a room containing 2 beds/2 desks/2 closets and possibly a sink or other stuff. The communal bathroom/shower is down the hall for everyone on the floor to use. Beyond the door and you’re directly into the room.

Suites are 3 or 4 bedrooms grouped together in a bunch behind a single door (with a small hallway or common room) and you have private bathroom(s) for just those people who live in your suite to use.

On the other hand, an apartment is more secluded because you have a front door and then bedroom(s), living room, bathroom(s), kitchen, etc.

[Housing Options - Where Do I Live?](Building Search | USC Housing)
You can check the floor plans to see what I’m trying to explain.

Social wise it goes Dorm > Suite > Apartment.
Nice wise, the suites and apartments are newer and nicer.

wow thanx for that website! some of the rooms…actually most of them look horrible. lol but i guess thats what the rooms are like when u go to college. one said u can stay at the radisson hotel…wich is like gossip girl (serena stays in a hotel). that looks much better than the other ones and its not much more expensive. itd probably be far away from friends tho.

Radisson is just across the street from campus. It’s not far at all. You want to talk about far, try living in Sierra or Pacific or Regal Trojan, way out on Adams.
