Dorms at USC

@hereandthere:

We have a couch, a TV and every game system known to man in our room, so it's a really nice place to relax and hang out. We also have a drying rack and a couple of guitars, too.

@stina:

Like delass said, it's no problem without A/C. We have a box fan and it keeps the room really cool.

@meeshellee:

Birnkrant, New/North, Pardee, and Radisson all have co-ed floors, if I'm not mistaken.

Pardee doesn't have coed floors, nor does Trojan Hall, Marks Hall or Marks Tower.

I came from the hot part of California so LA was a vacay for me. However, it will get into the low 90's (usually 30% humidity) for the first part of the Fall, so a Box fan or two is a necessity.

stina, s is in New/North with no a/c. They have one big fan and two small ones in the room and he's been okay with it. They do have heat waves but most days are tolerable. By night time it's cooler.

One other thing to keep in mind--know your kid. My kids NEVER wake up in time for breakfast, so it would be a waste to buy a plan that expected them to consume it. S opted for the minimal meal plan both years & was happy with it. His friend opted for the most expensive plan that gave the most flexibility, since he ate a lot. He ended up having everyone help him spend his dining dollars at the end of each term.

D didn't purchase any meal plan as a transfer sophomore & is just buying meals or snacks as she prefers, cooking in her place at Webb (which has a kitchen).

S lived in Pardee & he bought a fan; I think his room mate also brought one & they were comfortable. They were on the 8th floor, so it caught some breeze off the quad.

meeshellee: Parkside (Arts/Humaninties and IRC) have coed floors as well.

agree with HImom, s doesn't eat breakfast either, he has the 10 meals per week and $500 dining dollars -- last semester he had many meals left over and he had to use up his dining dollars buying ice cream and juices from Trojan Grounds. This semester he has run out of meals a couple of times already and had to use his dining dollars.
Also, on the weekends, only EVK and Parkside are open, none of the eateries that use dining dollars are open.
Instead of getting extra dining dollars, you can also get discretionary dollars, which you load onto your USC card and can be used to buy meals. These don't expire (I think) whereas dining dollars do.

But you can use dining dollars at evk and parkside, right?

I just put my housing deposit down: 30$. I'm still not really sure if USC is my first choice (depends on the scholarship I receive), but my parents told me to choose rooms early-ish.
Is it bad that all my 5 choices were singles? If I don't get any of them, will they stick me in whatever?

That's not true, the Lot is open on weekends. I'm pretty sure Cafe 84 is open too.

Yes, you can use them but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have Trojan. Its $8 for breakfast, $10 for lunch, and $12 for dinner. Your dining dollars will go fast if you use them at Parkside and EVK if you have the Cardinal plan.

Ouch thats expensive. What is it with the trojan?

Assuming it doesn't change next year, Trojan has $2,934 dining dollars per semester. You'd have to spend $25 every day of the semester to go through all of it. Usually, this isn't the case and most people end up having large amounts of dining dollars left over at the end of the semester. I've seen people buy cases of drinks and boxes of snacks/candy because if they don't spend it, it expires.

oh ok, just because theres a plethora of them. I was thinking it might get discounted rates at the dining hall. My safety has a plan like that.

Do you know about how much it would cost to eat someplace else on campus?

There is University Village which is just across the street from campus that has a food court with plate lunches, sandwiches and a pretty good selection of things to eat. Most of the meals are well under $10. There is also a Denny's there, a supermarket and a dollar store. All of these things are pretty decent and priced for student budgets. There is a DASH bus you can take to get further from campus. It costs $.25 and has a pretty good range.

Any suggestions for a Music Composition Major? I am thinking about the Arts and Humanitees building, but it seems to be far from the music buildings and everything else for that matter.

Sorry about the wrong information about the Lot, some of the cafes are open on the weekend, but close at 5 p.m.
The Lot - Dining Options

Hello, all (: I think I'm going to turn in housing deposit tonight, since popular dorms seem to go by really fast.
My question is, if I'm going to attend USC as a Business Admin major, which dorms are probably closest to the classes I'll be taking?

You'll have classes all over so there really isn't a best dorm. Its no more than a 10 min walk across campus, even less if you have a bike/skateboard/scooter/etc. Its still fairly early and you have a really good chance of getting any dorm.

anyone know how the suites are at fluor??
i would love some juicy details

What kind of juicy details would you like?

anything!
me and my friends are looking into an 8 person suite there and wanted to know all about it
social or nonsocial
how popular it is to live in, quality of suites, etc...
