Dorms at Will Rice College?

What are the rooms like? How big are the beds, and is there any furniture provided?

Thanks a lot in advance. I just need to know what to buy before I leave the nest.

The beds are usually the size of twin beds, there are not going to be queen or king size bed, nor full size. They are mainly about the size of twin beds. And it is only the mattress (which isn’t the softest thing in the world).
Yes, there are desks and chairs in the room.

They arent usually twin, they are always Twin XL

The furniture provided is -

 1. Desk
 2. Chair
 3. Bed frame
 4. mattress
 5. Wardrobe / Closet
 6. Chest of drawers (3 or 4 drawers)

this applies to ALL dorms at rice. For next year you will be in McMurtry college, so you aret in WRC building. thats the year after that. either way the furniture is the same

My bad. I never was able to learn the art of mastering mattress sizes…

Thanks a lot guys!

btw, do you know when we meet our roommates? Is it during o-Week?

Yes. You move in the saturday of Oweek (16th of August)

Now, you can meet them whenever. My suitemate and I met each other the day before. he came in from NJ and I from Boston and just met up to say hi

Sunday of O-Week, you mean.

Cooljoe, you’ll get a packet in the next couple of weeks with your O-Week book and information about your roommate (and suitemates, if applicable). You’re free to contact them whenever, but you will definitely meet them on move-in day.

yeah sunday. mis read the date. my bad

but yeah, all of you move in Sunday morning where you get your keys and check in and meet your roommates.

Dude us Will Ricers are up in McMurtry this year…so the rooms will be different than what Will Rice will be afte4r the finish construction. Basically, the rooms in McMurtry are either singles or doubles, singles share bathrooms at end of hall, and doubles have bathrooms within their room.

But all the furniture and beds are standard, so this isn’t gonna to affect your planning at all.

BTW, welcome to the best college at Rice.

^^ mcmurtry has singles suites.

Thanks again. yeah, i’ve just been a little worried cuz I haven’t heard anything from Rice lately, so I’ll just be patient.

sweet! so we get brand new suites then.
yeah, and I initially wasn’t sure what to think about getting into Will Rice, but I guess if it shares its name with the university, it must be pretty good :)

^^ ah the misnomer. ;)

Actually WRC was named after his grandson I believe.

According to Wikipedia, WRC was named after the founder’s nephew. lol
By the way, I’m also in Will Rice! =]

I’m wondering if the beds are bunkable or height adjustable or if we should buy those risers to put under the beds so stuff can be stored underneath. Do you know if they are carpeted? Do we need to supply a vacuum and a broom? Do the students take turns cleaning bathrooms, etc or is there a cleaning person?

they are ALL adjustable. dont waste money on risers

Bathrooms are cleaned once or twice a week by custodial staff

someone will have a broom and vaccuum

And plungers, don’t forget the plungers (someone will have them). :D

those are taken care of by the Housing department

Wait don’t you work for the Housing department? (just wondering, I’m sure you don’t plunge toilets)

I do work for them. And Normally I provide a plunger or call it in.
It does involve some messy work though
