Dorms+Bathrooms

I'll be attending U of M in the fall, and I'm really excited! :)

I have a note from my doctor citing my need for a private bathroom, but after talking some people in the housing department, they say that that would most likely place me in Baits II.

I've read some stuff online and I don't hear many positive things about Baits.

Are there any other dorms on campus with private/semi-private bathrooms? If not, how bad are community bathrooms? I'd almost rather give up a bathroom if it's anything like I've read.

Also, for freshman dorms, which are generally viewed as the best, and why?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to prepare. :)

A lot of the dorms have private bathrooms scattered around, it might just be that for freshman that’s all they have right now. I have a private bathroom in Newberry (girls only), and I know they have them in Cambridge, and at least some in East Quad, too. I think fletcher does, too, but you might prefer baits.

The bathrooms aren’t bad. I have a private bathroom because I have a stomach conditions and I was spending nights sleeping on the floor of the community bathroom last eary-- they are nice but they are not that nice. If you don’t really NEED a private bathroom, the hall bathrooms are good enough. If you do, though, I encourage you to pursue that because when you have a health condition that necessitates a private bathroom, not having one is REALLY unpleasant and can ruin your entire experience.

We’ve talked through Private Messages before. I recall your situation pretty vividly.

My only thing is, I feel like if I get placed at Baits w/ a private bath, I’ll be missing out on the community feel of a dorm like Markley/Bursely, which I would REALLY like.

Ahh, I remember you now. You’ll have to weigh the pros and cons. I lived in east quad my first year and didn’t get a great social atmosphere anyway (non-rc) and I didn’t have the good bathroom situation to boot. For me, as I’m sure you can imagine since we’ve talked, the bathroom trumps all else hands down. If you don’t get as sick as I do you may have a little more room to compromise with yourself. There should be unisex bathrooms in every building that are private which can be utilized when needed, it’s just a matter of how far away from your room they are and if that will work for you.
