Would love to get some updated information about each of the dorms (i.e., what it’s like to live there, did you like living there?, how far from dining room, main campus, suggestions, pros/cons, etc…). Thanks!
Hi, Student Life actually has a super helpful guide to all freshman housing. It should answer most of your questions. http://www.studlife.com/housing/
Hi, Im an incoming sophomore and I lived in a traditional suite in a double. Everyone says traditional dorms are old and gross but I didn’t have a problem with it (I’d say the most annoying things were the bad room lighting and having to manually set the a/c while modern dorms have electronic temperature control). the thing about being in a traditional suite however is that you don’t have a “floor” so I didn’t get close to many ppl outside of suite. If I had to live in a traditional again, I would’ve gone for the nonsuite style (lee/beau) bc the freshman floors get really close over the year. Modern dorms are definitely a lot nicer. When my friend moved into her modern double in the beginning of the year, she sent me a pic and it straight up looked like a hotel. The rooms are also slightly bigger so that’s a plus. I didn’t mind living in my traditional double, but if I could do it again I would have prefed a modern double first and then a traditional nonsuitestyle double second. The distance away from the BD (the dining room) and main campus depends on your dorm. Closest to BD is Umrath and then Eliot B and Lien. Farthest from BD is Danforth and Daunten. Lien is the closest to campus and Danforth is the farthest dorm from campus and then Mudd and probably Hurd. Most people end up loving their freshman dorm by the end of the year. If you have any more questions just let me know!
Hi,
Thanks so much for all of this great information!! Can you tell me which are the oldest of the modern dorms and which are the newest modern dorms? Also, how many traditional dorms are left?
Thanks so much!
Idk about how old/young all the modern dorms are exactly, but I know that Umrath is the newest one (it just recently got remodeled) and I think Park is the oldest. I don’t think the newness or oldness of the modern dorms is really relevant tho because all of the modern dorms are basically the same (except for Umrath).
There are 4 freshman traditional dorms left- Hurd and Dauntern (suite style) and Lee and Beau (non-suite)
The oldest modern dorm is Park (1989) followed by Danforth (1998), Lien (1999), Eliot (2002), Dardick (2004), Koenig (2006), and Umrath (2009). However like nineteeth123 said, the newness or oldness of the moderns don’t really matter.
I agree that the newness/oldness doesn’t really matter. I just wanted to get an idea because I’m not very familiar with the campus. i thought Lien was supposed to be gorgeous so I thought it was newer. Maybe it’s just it’s location close to campus that people love.
