I lived at Lakeside for Summer B. It is nice, bedrooms are kind of small, and it isn't as social as the traditional dorms. It's FAR from the main part of Campus. I remember one night my friends and I walked from Jennings to Lakeside because it was 3:00AM and we had no ride home. Yeah, that pretty much sucked [and gainesville weather in the summer is humid]. I'm at Beaty now and it's fun. The rooms are small, but if you make the beds into bunk beds, you have more space. My roommate and I had to do this on our own because the desk office didn't want to help us and gave us some ******** excuse. It's more social than Lakeside, and A LOT closer to campus.

To be honest, its not housing responsibility to bunk you beds for you. You could have made a HAWk request and maybe they would have assisted you more.

The lady at the desk office said beds weren't "allowed" to be bunked, if she wanted to be helpful, she could have told us about HAWK [which I know of now].

Note: The last of the dorms in the Yulee Area (Reid, Yulee, Mallory), Yulee, is being renovated this summer. The others have already been renovated. It's a nice quiet area near broward dining and broward recreational complex (basketball, tennis, hockey, pseudo-beach volleyball, skatepark, swimming pool).

I love the new bathrooms they put into reid and mallory, and yulee soon.

Are the tolbert and graham dorms known for being rowdy or quiet, or somewhere in between? Thanks

All the traditional style dorms are basically the same with "rowdiness." Since they usually are occupied by freshmen. How social the floor ultimately is depends on who ends up living on the floor.

i figured this thread should be bumped for upcoming freshmen.

housing application is due soon and it gives us 3 preferences for dorms..
can someone help me find a good match?
i'd like to meet alot of people, be close to freshman parking, be close to the dining hall/library and all those important buildings... i'm also going into civil or environmental engineering so it'd be good to be as close to those as possible as well..and AC is definately a must (i heard 2 halls don't have it)..any suggestions?

Which do you prefer more parking or dining/library? Do you really have to bring your car. Just saying that you will be the one people look to when they need to go the supermarket and what not.

^ugh well that's annoying..
but yes it is absolutely necessary for me to bring my car
(is it hard to get a decal as a freshman?)
i only live 2 hours away so.. it's not like i can fly home.
but i'd say it's more important to be closer to dining/library/classes than parking

The reason why is that there is much more parking for freshmen on west campus than there is on east. You can always park you car over by simpson/trusler when you are on using it. This is also a parking garage by sorority row but I heard that gets filled quickly. Since you like dining/library/classes, I would probably say you might like something in the Broward Area (that includes broward, rawlings, mallory, yulee, reid). The last 3 were recently renovated so they are really nice inside. Living in the Broward area, you have traditional style dorms, so you meet more people. You are close to Marston Lib. and Lib. West is only a short walking distance away. Also you have broward dining/burger king right next door (there is also Beaty Market convenience store by breaty if you want to walk there). Also the majority of the freshmen classes are close by.

oh okay thankyou so much!
yeah Yulee, Reid and Mallory sound nice from what i've read
is there a chance i won't get a parking decal AT ALL?
like i said it is extremely important for me to have a car on campus

They give parking decals to whoever pays for one, but that doesn't guarantee that spaces will be available. Some like to say its a "licences to hunt."

wow, this is funny. I just noticed I started this thread about a year ago.

time flies...

enjoy your first year here guys and don't stress too much =)

This is really helpful!

I'm thinking I'll be putting Simpson>Mallory>Graham? Argh.

I've been in Graham and it's decent enough. Simpson appears similar to Graham but looks nicer in the picture on the CD? Haha. The allure of the "newly renovated" leads me to Mallory or Yulee [I can't do Reid because I won't be doing the "fine arts living/learning community" and that's the only way I can choose it on the form].

Found this while try to find pics of Murphree rooms (might be helpful to some): UF Advice - Dorms, Housing & Apartments in Gainesville

I'm sure someone has already asked this but:

Can you live on campus for Summer and move off campus for fall and spring? If you intended to do this, how would you apply?

I think you can... Isn't it possible to simply check "Summer B" in the housing contract form that you fill out online, where you indicate your other preference?

I was wondering, I got accepted to Summer B for UF, but I have a requested roommate who was accepted into the Fall. Is it still possible for the student to be my roommate.

Also, for housing it says that I need to apply for both Summer and Fall/Spring. Does that mean I have to pay $400?

so i just got home visiting the UF campus and for dorms it's between
Mallory and Sledd (or Fletcher)

Give your opinions please
