Hi all I was admitted into NYU a while back and am seriously considering it now. I know the Stern Business School is among the best (that is the main reason I want to go) but I was originally deterred by the fact that NYU does not provide the "traditional" college experience.

I am a Cali kid. I longboard, enjoy the outdoors, pong (beer) almost everyday, and rage on the weekends. Will I be able to do this at NYU (this question goes to people that actually GO there now)? What is the party scene like there, if there is one? What are the fraternities like (if anyone in a current NYU frat could answer this I would be so happy)? I've heard lots of things about going to bars or clubs. In short, I am not interested in that at all so don't try and tell me about that. By partying, I mean in a house (or equivalent area) with beer, fun people, and chicks. I'm not looking for a huge population of partiers per se, I'm perfectly content with a small (30 ish) group of bros that I can share some fun times with. Does this exist?

I've read that NYU is for kids without school spirit. Well I've got a lot of school spirit actually so I want to know more about that. What is the community like? I don't want to be surrounded by a bunch of sophisticated, independent, Indie kids doing their own thing... I know in the end, this stuff all depends on how social I am, but I'm just looking to see what kind of environment I will be dealing with.

I'm willing to sacrifice bits and pieces from my otherwise "traditional" college experience because of Stern's reputation, but there is a limit. In short, how far away is the NYU experience from the traditional one?

Thank you all in advance for answering. Social atmosphere is actually a big determinant in what college I ultimately choose to go to, and I would love to go to NYU!
