Dorms/Living Learning Communities

If D attends UTK, she needs to decide soon which dorm to request. At first she'd thought one of the community style dorms for the more social aspect of it, but the new Fred Brown dorms look almost too good to pass up.

She has been admitted to the Chancellor's Honors Program, which I believe will be housed there. She is also planning on majoring in ChemE, so is also considering the Engage living learning community for engineers.

D is also planning on going through sorority recruitment and hopefully pledging. Do many honors/engineering students pledge sororities at UTK? We're just trying to find the best living arrangements for her to be successful academically, but also socially happy.

I’d vote for the CHP housing. We were at UTK today for a swim meet. The Fred D. Brown building is huge and looks fantastic. Plus, your D would meet more people outside her major. Like my D who also was accepted to the CHP but hasn’t made up her mind on a major or whether it’s going to be UTK (but I think it is).

I know this is an old thread, but I have a question about Living Learning Communities, and I didn’t want to create a new thread. S has applied for a LLC. Does anyone know the timeline for hearing from housing about the LLC application?

There’s a process you have to follow step by step (I recently did this for my D in the CHP). If you already put your enrollment deposit down, then you sign up for housing, then the LLC . seems like it takes a few days to confirm Fred Brown.

I would email the dir of honors and ask.

I called housing today. They said it gets updated every Friday but was not updated last Friday. Should have some news soon. Thanks swimmom2020.

@eli1067 did you get her into Fred Brown?

My son opted for the Business School LLC.

My son just decided to participate in the Business School LLC Venture yesterday!

kmwjes: That’s great! I’ve heard that it is really good, and I love the fact that some sections of classes are reserved for Venture students. S sent his deposit a bit later than many, it appeare
