When I go to chose a dorm in Wash they give you the option to opt for a suit distribution instead of a traditional lay out. Could someone tell me what the difference is or which is better?
Modern is very nice, you typically share a suite with three other people, with exceptions (such as one res college that has bigger suites and specific rooms that don’t have suitemates like mine). There are two types of traditional dorms. Theres a communal one, which would be considered the “worst” ones on campus, yet everybody that I know that lives there is fiercely proud of living there. There is definitely a very tight floor vibe there that you can’t find elsewhere. Modern depends on case by case basis but its not the same. The other traditional dorms are suites, where you have a common room and around four rooms (like 7ish people) and share a bigger bathroom. I personally like those bc common room is lit (parties?) or just chilling. Honestly you can’t go wrong and theres pros and cons to each.
I lived in a traditional suite and I hated how I didnt get the whole “floor community” experience my freshman year. It;s definately nicer not having to share a bathroom with my whole floor but I would have gladly given that up to have the floor community. Freshman are supposed to get really close with their floor mates but I didnt get this chance.
The suite style common rooms are better than the non-suite style common rooms thats for sure though. And it was nice how if someone got sexiled or they could stay in the common room
