Dorms Thread

collegejawn Upper Thurston and Lower Thurston are separated, so it’s really 5

Does anyone know if Madison is completely filled with jocks? I don’t have anything against people who play sports (I’ve played sports too), but I don’t want everyone I live with to judge me if I’d rather watch Netflix than go for a run.

@collegejawn they actually ask you to list 7 i think ? so i guess we all HAVE to put MV down but make sure its like last. so like
Potomac
U. Thurston
L. Thurston
Madison
Crawford
West
Cole

Thats basically my list because worst comes to worst and i end up at MV, i want to live in West

That’s good, yet, I really don’t wanna live in Thurston. I need to decide whether it’d be better to live in West or Thurston -.-

Damn the MV campus :|

I don’t understand, why don’t you guys like MV?

why do they separate upper and lower thurston? whats the difference?

^this. seriously. Are there different types of rooms on the bottom vs. top?

No differences between the rooms besides how many ppl they can hold. They’re separated because of cohorts/LLCs.

So there aren’t more doubles in the upper part or anything like that? It just has to do with the cohorts or whatever?

I decided to do a little breakdown of the freshman residence halls. All the information I used can be obtained from the housing website ([Living @ GW - The George Washington University](http://living.gwu.edu/)). I did this in order to make it easier to compare one to another at a glance. Feel free to edit and repost if you have anymore info or insight. This is just the Foggy Bottom campus, but a Mount Vernon version is in the works, so stay tuned!

Me, too, RichL421. It says “access denied, your account has been deactivated.” This definitely shouldn’t be as hard as it is.

yeah I called the school and the person who I talked to said that even though we have made a net id it talks a while for the housing system to recognize it…hopefully it will be up by tonight

@richl421 and @collegejawn, also make sure you are using internet explorer. Won’t work on chrome or safari, though some have said it works on firefox

The one thing that the list (above) of dorms available to freshmen doesn’t have is the price difference between the dorms and rooms! Is anyone else concerned about this?

The cheapest dorms are $7,130 as follows:
MV:
Clark double
Cole double
Hensley double
Merriwether double

FB:
Thurston quad, 5, and 6-people rooms

The next price is $9,250, but I think only a double in Somers (MV) is that price for freshmen.

The rest of the freshmen dorms, including doubles and triples in Thurston, are $9,650.

I wish the university budgeted extra for freshmen on financial aid or provided housing grants, because it seems very unfair to forcibly segregate freshmen by ability to pay the extra $2.5K.

this thread is pointless. half of you will end up in thurston no matter what. a quarter will get effed over and end up on the vern. the only people that get a choice are ed1/2 and people that sent in their deposits in like march

There’s actually a decent number of ED students posting on this thread (including myelf), so I woudn’t necessarily call it pointless.

fair enough. that last post was directed towards non ed-ers i.e. the vast majority of students.
best advice i could give is do NOT put the vern anywhere on your application under any circumstance. there’s really nothing to debate if you’re ed, just put potomac or lafayette (or thurston if you really want the social experience) and you’re all set. those are by far the best freshman dorms on campus (and usually reserved for ed)
