if i remember correctly, there’s like 7 or 8 spots to rank your preferences. If you fill in all the foggy bottom dorms, there’s still 1 or 2 spots still open. LEAVE THEM BLANK (if you don’t want to live on the vern). you do NOT have to fill in every spot. if you list a MV dorm anywhere on the list (even last), that’s probably where you’ll end up. also, for those of you freaking out about thurston, it really isn’t as bad as the rumors say. i literally gagged when i found out i got thurston, but it turned out fine

I still don’t understand why everyone hates the Vern with such a burning passion, and no one has answered me when I ask.

Hey, I’m trying to decide between whether I should put down crawford or Potomac as my first choice. I know I want to live on Foggy Bottom no matter what and I don’t think I want thurston. I was just wondering if any one can tell me what the differences are between Crawford, Madison, Lafayette and Potomac. I think I would like Crawford better than Potomac + I wasn’t ED, so I may not be able to get potomac anyway. also Im going to be Ba/md and honors so I was wondering whether that has any impact on whether I get my top preferences. It would be great if anyone, especially current Ba/md students could tell me more about the houses on FB. Thanks

does anyone know when we find out which dorm we are in? CI? just before move in day?

I thought room and roommate choices are told to us on June 6th

How are we notified? I didn’t get any email from gwu yet… Anyone?

Hi i was just put in west hall and I am seriously starting to wonder what exactly is wrong/ bad about the vern??? I mean everyone on here is suggesting to avoid it like the plague and its kind of concerning.

I get that it is more low key but is there nothing going on at all?

I didn’t live there, but getting to the vern and back to foggy bottom is annoying. The shuttle doesn’t take that long unless there’s traffic, but it’s just an added hassle to have to leave earlier to get to a class on the vern. The campus itself isn’t bad, but it’s definitely not like a traditional college campus. It’s pretty dead most of the time minus sport practices going on. However, the food on the vern is really good, and Eckles Library is a lot nicer than Gelman.

Ok im in west and I’m kind of freaking out- do kids who live on the vern go to foggy bottom campus go to parties and stuff- i dont want to be secluded from the rest of the student body :(

i just got my assignment too and somehow i got into potomac even though i’m RD, and I’m wondering about my roommate. In the email i got there was one person listed, but on the GWeb there were three…anyone else in potomac get this?

^ your room mate is the one in the email. your bathroom mates (suitemates) are the other two on the Gweb

Hey i didn’t get the room assignment yet… Did anyone not receive anything from gwu besides me?

Did you check your gwu email? Or go to https://gwhousing.gwu.edu/, enter the housing portal, log in, and click “bookings” on the left. Hopefully that works, but if not, I’m not sure.

For those of you not happy with room assignments, you can always room swap. It can take time, but it’s very doable. The website is: [Living @ GW - The George Washington University](http://living.gwu.edu/ressvcs/roomswap/)

To those of you upset because you were assigned to the Vern: You were probably told at your high school graduation some version of “Be the change you want to see in the world.” So do your best to change the Vern, rather than deserting it! This year it seems even more freshman will be living there (because transfer students were moved to a freshman dorm at FB), so you definitely won’t be alone.

Just have parties in your own dorm! Get involved in campus activities at the Vern and invite friends from FB to come. Get to know everyone on the Vern. Refuse to have a defeatist attitude that you’re losing out on something – make things happen where you are! If you all work to form a close and vibrant community, that will happen, and you might even have closer friendships than you would have had otherwise.

Also, remember, you’re still part of GWU. You’re still in DC, and actually in a highly desirable neighborhood. This is just one year out of 4. Make the most of it! You’ll be a short walk from Georgetown, and the kids there probably aren’t complaining about their location.

Finally, unless you’re in West or Somers (or a single), you’re saving at least $2,500 by living on the Vern. This will help when you have to pay for the more expensive upperclass dorms on FB.

Remember: You can request to transfer dorms and/or rooms.

If you don’t like your dorm, request a change as soon as you decide you want to switch. Sometimes rooms in better dorms open up mid-semester.

Is somers reserved for those who got into the women’s leadership program??

Somers houses the Women’s Leadership Program and the Politics and Values Programs, but you do not have to be in those programs to live there. I live there and I’m not involved in either of those!

The rooms in Thurston are snug, old and each floor is a zoo, overfilled with too many students. Great place to be if you aren’t at GWU to get an education.

The dorms on the Vern (GWUs Mt. Vernon campus) are beautiful, new, clean, roomy. The Vern has a true campus feel and has a good cafeteria, athletic facilities, classrooms, etc. Really an ideal place to be as a freshman, learning to be responsible for yourself and learning to manage your time. There is a shuttle that run constantly between the Vern and Foggy Bottom and it is only a few minutes away.

Some freshman can have a single in Mitchell, which is Foggy Bottom campus, next to Thurston. While it is the school’s stated commitment that EDIs and EDIIs get first choice in dorm choices, our DD and several of her friends were ED but did not get their top choices of housing.

Being at Foggy Bottom brings so many city distractions and challenges. It is a lot of fun but it places a lot of burden on students to be able to make good choices about managing their time. Starting freshman year on the Vern is a great way to make friends and get settled in to college on an urban campus before being set loose in the middle of a big city. It is really amazing that it is just a few minutes down the road but it is in one of the prettiest areas of DC. You get the best of all worlds before you still have full access to all the city offers but you are a little safer, a little more comfortable, and have a few more conveniences at the Vern.

What dictates your assignment to either MVC or FB? I really want to live in FB, is that just a matter of signing up as soon as rooming opens?
