Dorms @ UCSB?

i want to say that ft is like a mile from dp and the beach, its on el colegio rd, the closet dorms to the gym would probably be the ones on campus, san raf, manzanita and the 5 freshman dorms

Kinda dissapointed. None of my friends can visit me if I go to UCSB.

Strippers: Strippers are prohibited in the residence halls.

hahaha monstermuddy, that sucks =[

Hey guys,

I’m a transfer student coming for 2010/11. I have decided to choose halls over apartments as I like the idea of being on campus and close to IV. I have been told by the housing department I only have the choice of Manzanita or San Raf. I was just wondering which of these was more social as I want to meet as many people as I can while I’m at UCSB. Don’t mind parties, they are better for meeting people and if I thought I need to study I would just go to the library.

Thanks.

OK, anyone else PO’d about $13,109 for nine months? That’s over $1,456 per month to share a tiny room and eat cafeteria food. Are the dorms/dining commons run by a private outside company? If so, how do they justify these costs, a 6% increase from last year. It’s price gouging, as we don’t have a choice. 'Not like we’re not paying through the nose for tuition and fees as it is!!!

No, the dining commons are run by the Housing department and supposedly just try to make enough to stay operating. We don’t have Sodexho or anything like that.

with your major how much free time did you have?

Collegeyikes
Don’t forget, the location can’t be beat; a bunch of the dorms are on campus, and are practically beach front property.

princesslesa
Us freshmen will soon find out :)

On top of that, the food is all you can eat and it’s fairly decent in my opinion. With a EFC of 0, I only had to pay about 2k a quarter for everything this year which is reasonable. No loans or anything.

sorry, might any of you that think $1400+ a month is ok actually parents who are PAYING this amount?

^
What?

tenchar

question, if I somehow meet someone during orientation and we want to become roommates but I’ve already sent my preference form and housing contract in, is there a way to change and become roommates with the person I met?
(sry I know i didn’t word that question well)
thanks for any reply :)

For a freshman are anacapa or santa cruz too far away from the center? Would Santa Rosa be better for central location. But then is Santa Rosa too far from the beach (I want to be near the beach)?

all the 5 dorms near the library are pretty much in the same area and near the beach

what do the dorms come with?

FT all the way! Best social life! Loved it there my first year!

I love you kennybear, message me your dorm choices

does anyone know which private dorm is better… tropicana gardens or fountainebleu… im leaning towards fountainebleu. Thanks.

I know this is probably a stupid question, but what is FT?

It stands for Francisco Torres - the old name of the Santa Catalina dorm, which was renamed not long after UCSB bought it from a private housing company (it was like Fontainebleu and Tropicana Gardens).
