Dorms vs Apartments

I am planning to attend UCSB in the fall as a freshmen and I was wondering where I should live. My cousin is currently a Freshmen there and lives in an apartment in Isla Vista. I have gone to visit her and I love it. I have the opportunity to move in with her next year but I'm not sure if thats the best idea because I really want to get the entire college experience and I believe that not living in the dorms for the first year might take away from that. Do you think that living in an apartment my freshmen year might limit the amount of people I meet as well as my social life?

For those who do live or have lived in dorms at SB, which do you recommend? I'm a very social person and I heard that FT tower is a good place to live and I dont mind living off campus. What should I do?

Dorm your first year. You'll have 3 years after that to live in an apartment.

I agree with rc251; live in a dorm the 1st year. You'll meet more people, and UCSB has support systems set up to help frosh in the dorms (RAs, talks, tutoring, etc) that you'll miss out on if you're in an apt.
