Okay, so I’m torn between going for a dorm or a suite. Everywhere I’ve asked, people have said suites suck, but they never justified why. I’ve visited my friend’s dorm and it’s pretty decent. I just want to know what are the advantages and disadvantages to each choice.

I also currently don’t have a roommate and figured I would just go for the random; but people tell me that that’s not a good choice because I could get a total jerk as a roommate. Should I keep trying to find roommate or just bite the bullet and go for a random.

Bottom line, I have no idea what to do. xD `Any advice?

Well you can make more friends if you get a suite. A dorm is more private, in my opinion. I would think that you can get more peace & quiet. However, don't listen to me since I don't even go to Davis, lol. I am just basing my information on what I recall on past threads, and some websites.

uhm, I've always heard the exact opposite of BabyBlue.

From the people i've talked to at Davis, the suites are anti-social, but not to the point where you can't make friends if you don't try.

In the dorms, you'll be forced to go out of your room into the lounge, bathroom, library, etc.

You'll meet people on your entire floor in the dorms, while in the suite you'll probably make good friends with your suitemates if you get lucky and get roommates that click with you (the assignment of roommates is random unless you specifically ask for someone).

This year the suites at South Castilian were really social, so I don't know which year started the notion that suites are anti-social. Actually, I think suites are much better for hanging out with more people because each suite has its own common room where you can hang out with all your friends. The only downside is Cuarto is slightly farther from campus (about 5 minutes more by bike).
