Dorms?

I was accepted to OSU awhile ago, and I’m not sure if I’ll go there, but I just went to the Honors day thing, and if I did end up going to OSU, I have no idea where I would want to live.

I know that I want to live in Honors: Taylor, Bradley, Lincoln, or Siebert; but even after touring I have no idea which one I’d want to live in. Everyone there said that the best dorms were the ones that they lived in, but that’s not very helpful when deciding…

So if someone could give me some facts/student information about these dorms that would be much appreciated :)

My son went through the same thing last year. You just need to prioritize what is most important to you. Is it room size & amenities, convenience to classes, roommates, etc? My kid is in engineering so he wanted to room with other engineers to make it easier to find study partners and keep him in the right mindset. He considered Taylor but opted for Houck across the street for the reasons stated above. He liked the convenience to classes and High Street, the air conditioning, and having the bedroom separate from the study room, but he disliked the cramped quarters. I don’t think he would have minded Lincoln but he probably would’ve been late to classes more. I’m not sure he would have liked the south campus because he does not like the open room concept.

i decided on bradley because i liked the semi private bathrooms and the fact that it doesn’t have air conditioning (I’m always cold)

My son is at OSU in honors. He didn’t think it was important to tour the dorms and made his request based on opinions from others on the best area to live. He ended up in Seibert, which was his first choice. As his mom, when we walked into his room, I almost cried. It was small, gloomy, extremely old, and not laid out well. I doubt they have updated this dorm since it was built - though I have heard South quad is going to been renovated soon (don’t know what soon means). He has a friend that chose an engineering learning community (also South quad) and they’ve had many opportunities to connect through a variety of activities and field trips. Not the case in Seibert. Also, South quad is really far from engineering classes so be prepared to walk a lot if you chose that area. To be fair, my son was OK with the dorm. I’m the one that was extremely disappointed.

Thanks everyone! I’m going into international studies so I don’t think I’ll have to worry about missing out on a learning community (since there isn’t one), now I’m just deciding between Taylor and Lincoln vs. Siebert and Bradley
I like the location of the south campus dorms, near the oval, but I don’t like the inside as much. And with Taylor and Lincoln, I like the interior and not the location…so basically I just have to think about what RMGsmom and what everyone else was saying and make a decision based on that.
Thanks for the advice everyone! It’s been really helpful.
