Hey everyone.... I was wondering, what are considered to be the "good" dorms for incoming freshman?

No matter which dorm you end up getting put in, you will develop a sense of familial bonding and loyalty to your respective community. Each community has its own traditions and customs; and it’s not like stereotypes tend to all go to the same halls; you will find a good mix of people at all of them.

If you are talking about the modern amenities and the like, Mountainview is probably top of the list; they’re fairly new and have air conditioning. Newing is currently in the process of being completely rebuilt, so that’s pretty nice.

Then there’s learning communities. If you are going for pre-law, pre-med, etc., you can request to dorm with other people like you. This doesn’t apply to every major, but there are other options. I plan on going for languages, so my first choice is CIW because every Tuesday in their dining hall they have a French speaking table.

You can do a bit of research on your own and see what you come up with here:

But the bottom line? Chances are you’ll have equally enjoyable times no matter where you dorm; it’s really what you make of it.

Which Dorms would you recommend to a first year engineering student?
And for what reason (nearest probable classrooms, most engineering students)?
Thank you in advance for any information you can supply.

Like I said, when you apply for housing they give you the option to live with other students of your major. As to what dorm that will be exactly is variable based on the year. Just put down that you want to dorm the with other engineering students.
As for proximity to the engineering building, I think CIW is closest, but I could be wrong.

I’ve heard mountainview has mostly engineering students… I don’t think it’s a learning community or anything… they kind of just flock there.

CIW is the closest to the Engineering Building. Mountainview has a lot of engineers and Dickinson has the CoRE community.

Thanks for the input.

I wonder if there will be room for transfer students to have their priority choice for specific dorm buildings. I understand current students have already filled out their applications for housing next year.
