Would anyone care to talk about the dorms? Which ones are the best etc, do each school have their own dorms (i.e. SCS has their own dorm where all it's students reside). What we are and arent allow to bring.

The dorm assignments are made in the order that the student sent in the enrollment deposit. Students are not assigned according to the school they are enrolled in. There are two freshman only dorms, Morewood E Tower and New House. The other dorms have both upperclass student and freshmen alike. As far as preference, I really think it is a personal choice. Just visit the CMU site and take a tour and read the descriptions. Good luck with your decisions.

Donner is also typically freshmen, but there are 1 or 2 half floors of upperclassmen. It also may very well be the ugliest bldg. on campus outside, but was remodeled this summer and now has very nice common areas and great bathrooms. It's dorm rooms just may be the largest on campus, too.

I am merely a bagger, so I obviously don't know the entire inside scoop on the dorms. But, from what I remember...

Donner Smells (no joke...)

New House has tiny tiny dorms, that are very well ACed I hear

Morewood appears to be one of the more desireable dorms

Hammersledge is male only (I think it was Hammer...)

Morewood E-tower and New House are the frosh dorms, other dorms have freshman floors. It can be nice to be surrounded by freshmen, but I have heard from some that being in mixed frosh/upperclassmen areas can be nice. Hard to tell.

also, there was a really nice chart that they send you when it's time to decide on rooms. It tells you what types of rooms and what "bonus features" you get, such as laundry (which is free in all dorms, but not apartments) on every floor (Morewood E), Workout rooms (almost every dorm), and clusters for printing (Morewood, Resnik, others I'm sure...). If I can find it, I'll post it later for you guys.....

I didn't get the link yet, but I just looked at those articles:

About the first one:
Almost every college has incredibly strict guidelines, but almost every dorm dweller breaks them. The same goes for the appliance regulations. It's usually not a problem....within reason. Just make sure the room is in decent condition when you leave.
