I'm not into partying, but I still want a very social dorm.. Any advice on which dorms to apply to and to avoid?

I’m a current Freshman, live in Witte but spend the majority of my time in Sellery. From experience and the experience of my friends these are both very social dorms, from the experience of my friends living in the Lakeshore area of campus it is social but not as social as she would prefer. Here in Southeast doors are constantly open and people always stop in and say hi. On Lakeshore it seems that that doesn’t happen very often, doors are shut people are always very to themselves. So from experience I would tell you to put Sellery and Witte for your first choices, the majority I would say is into the party scene but you’ll easily find kids who aren’t. Ogg and Smith wouldn’t be bad backups but I’ve never been there to experience their dorm, which is known to be somewhat of a hotel feel because they are so new. If you did want to live on the Lakeshore side though, Kronshage is probably the most social I know of.

Chadbourne is pretty social (it’s a pretty nerdy dorm but all the floors are usually pretty close due to how it’s set up) and they have lots of non-partying activities and stuff. However, unless you live in Lakeshore (and even then I don’t really know because I’ve never been over there) it’s impossible to completely avoid partying, sorry.

You also get to pick your exact room in Chad if you are part of the learning community.

Once you are accepted and choosing your dorm you will need to look at all of the differences. You may want/not want location, dorm style, etc. There is no one answer to your question. Each dorm has pros and cons, all maintained with similar facilities, the ones you prefer will draw others with similar preferences.
