Dorms

I was checking out the dorms on BU and I struck up some questions.

My top choices right now is Warren Towers and 575 Commonwealth (hojo).

I want to live at Warren but I don’t like the communal bathrooms and small rooms.

I like 575 because of the private bathrooms but I heard it isn’t as social like Warren.

That’s where I’m stuck. Any suggestions or Pro and Cons?

Check out the Ask a BU Student Thread - they have answered this question pretty extensively, and have some links that might help. FWIW, our DD loves West Campus for the great food and proximity to FitRec, but has friends in Warren as well.

For a freshman, I would definitely suggest Warren. Yes, the rooms are small and you will have to share a bathroom, but it is definitely worth it. In Hojo, you will get your own bathroom that you share with your roommate(s). But you will have to clean it. In Warren, your bathroom is cleaned by staff five days per week. Plus, there are three toilets and three showers (or 2 if you’re a guy), so you usually won’t have to wait for the bathroom. Furthermore, Hojo does have some freshmen, but has many more sophomores and juniors who already have their own friends. Although most people are friendly, you will not be in the same kind of environment as Warren.

I lived in Warren Towers my freshman year, and I definitely recommend it for the social aspect alone. There are literally over a thousand freshmen you can meet, and everyone is in the same boat. That can’t be said for Hojo, because there are more upperclassmen who keep their doors shut most of the time. When I was a freshman in Warren, everyone left their doors open a lot and it was a really easy way to meet people. There are also common rooms, which allows for a lot of bonding time as well.

Plus, Warren has a dining hall, so on those freezing Boston days when you don’t want to leave to eat, you don’t have to! Hojo does have a cafe, but it’s not the same thing.

Communal bathrooms honestly aren’t that bad. Just wear flip flops. As far as the room size, you get used to it.

I hope this helps! Ultimately, it’s your choice, but if you’re looking for a typical college dorm, Warren is the better choice.

I agree with shining star. The social aspect of Warren outweighs everything. No contest.
