Dorms!!!!

I know we can't choose, but what dorm does everyone hope they get when they reach the farm?

Me personally, I want either Roble or Branner. Branners three person suites are so awesome, and Roble is so beautiful on the outside and has that cool old Stanford charm.

i dont kno enough about the dorms to choose, anyone want to enlighten me?

also, ive heard we dont get to request roommates, is this true?

Well I'm hopefully doing SLE, and I want a four-class dorm, so I guess that puts me in FloMo, specifically Cardenal or Faisan.

Which dorms do freshmen usually get?

hmm i was thinking about JoTo or perhaps RoHo

I wouldn't mind CorTo either

how about you guys?

i feel dumb...don't know anything bout the dorms. i'd be happy just to live in the dumpster somewhere on campus. so yeah, spill some details for the rest of us

isn't there a matching process for roomates? i play rock n roll all night, dance while i study - i'm planning to smuggle my python on campus and i will be disabling the smoke detectors to burn my incense. any takers?

sounds great.

i made up all the abbreviations... just to mock you crazies

here's a great site for info about the dorms (and a bunch of other stuff)

hey guys '09 here and I just wanted to tell you a little bit about my dorm. I am in larkin and its an all freshman dorm and it is absolutely amazing. I have had the most amazing experience there and the most fun of my life. I definently recommend freshman dorms for all of you becuase they have way more fun and are alot closer to each other. Seriously I left my dorm for christmas break and in two days, just about everyone had tried to contact me. We love each other so much in a matter of 3 months and thats a great feeling to have.

JoTo? RoHo? CorTo? those aren't dorms... RoHo stands for Room Host for Admit Weekend, but I have no idea what those other two are. I have never heard them used....

that'll give you a rough idea of what there is.

generally, all frosh dorms are really crazy and spirited and partying. 4 class dorms are far less enthusiastic, but we have our fair share of fun, too. Parties are always available on the Row and you can always go to other dorms when they have parties...I personally love my 4 class dorm...it's really chill and balanced, we party, but we are quiet when we need to be. i couldn't handle an all frosh atmosphere.

you cannot request roommates - you fill out a form over the summer asking you to rank your dorm preferences (all frosh, co-ed, single sex, 4 class, ethnic themes) and about how social you want to be, your interests, your sleeping patterns, etc and they generally do a good job matching people. after freshmen year, you form drawgroups and can choose who you live with, but you'll find all this out later.

in conclusion, don't freak out about the dorm thing, you're not gonna be able to choose in the end, so just fill out the form honestly and you'll be matched somewhere that fits your lifestyle.

All frosh dorms aren't as crazy as people claim they are. They are probably much more spirited than four class dorms, but during the week they are pretty calm because people are busy studying, at clubs, etc. All frosh dorms are a great experience because they make the college transition easier. You have 80 or so people your age who are going through the same thing, so friendships just kinda happen. There are plenty of people who still study a lot, some who party a lot, a lot of diversity within each dorm. Before admit weekend I was 100% sure that I wanted a four class dorm because I wanted it to be quiet. Living in an all frosh dorm has never made it harder for me to study or kept me up at night. (I usually study in the lounge or in my room, never studied in the library, so that's actually saying a lot.) My dorm still has a lot of spirit and is a fun place to be, but it won't get in the way of your studying or anything either. Four class and all frosh dorms are probably not all that different in the end. Oh, also, in all frosh dorms you can still get advice from your dorm staff or upperclassmen you meet through classes, clubs, on the airplane to/from Stanford, etc. Most people are happy in the dorm they end up in.

With roommates... it seems pretty random actually. My roommate and I have virtually nothing in common. They are pretty good about making sure people are equally messy. Other than that, I almost doubt they even look at the forms you fill you. Everyone seems to get along pretty well anyway. If you are willing to be somewhat flexible, there is very very little change you and your roommate won't get along and at least be able to coexist well. If you aren't best friends, so what? There are a couple of less than great roommate pairings in my dorm, but everyone else seems to really like their roommate.
