I'm pretty sure Wesleyan is perfect for me (the question is... am I perfect for it? lol... I know, corny)-- but how are the dorms? I checked out some pics on the website... they don't look bad at all, despite some people calling them akin to "run-down summer camps."

I spent two nights at Wesleyan, and my verdict on the dorms is: Ewww. I wholeheartedly agree with the "run-down summer camp" description, with a few exceptions (notably, Clark Hall), of course. For example, the theme housing is very nice, like 200 Church St., the freshman multicultural house, and Eclectic, another theme house. There are plenty theme houses, so you probably won't be stuck in a dorm if you go there. But Wes is an amazing school, so don't be too turned off by the dorms. I applied there RD. Good luck, Effulgent.

We have quite a few dorms and by the time you guys get here there will be even MORE...brand new dorms for the freshmen class of 2009. (The construction here now is bad, but once it's finished, it will be nice).

Anyway, Clark and these new dorms will be the "newer" looking dorms. Clark is a freshman-only dorm where all rooms are one room doubles (meaning you have a roommate) and the building overall is more "modern."

Hewitt, Nics, and WesCo make up "Foss Hill." These are primarily freshmen dorms with some sophomores scattered throughout. They're mostly two-room doubles (again, roommate) with some (read: few) singles. They're pretty much standard dorms that I've seen everywhere, really. I mean, they're bigger than say, Penn State, but I mean, they're standard. Also, very close to MoCon, the main cafeteria where most freshmen have to eat on the meal plan.

I live in the Butterfields complex which is a primarily sophomore dorm with a lot of frosh mixed in. Mostly singles here, which is nice because as a frosh I don't have a roommate. The rooms, again, are pretty standard. The building itself is "mod" meaning 60's architecture on the outside. We have a smaller cafeteria than Mocono right here where frosh can use their meals. The drawback is that you won't meet as many frosh without effort as you would at the other dorms since we're farther away from the frosh dorms, but you will be more integrated with the upperclassmen. At least I find this to be true.

I really don't know much about 200 Church except that they have their own "House" and not really a dorm complex.

I hoped I helped. I know on the tour they only show you guys Clark.

Yea, I would echo what Ziplocky said. Now that they've completely gutted and renovated Clark, it's gone from the oldest dorm on campus to the newest and most sought after. Ironically, that leapfrogs the modish dorms built in the 50s and 60s into the category formerly held by Clark. Butterfield is okay. The courtyards are a bit more private and none of the rooms are on the first floor like Foss Hill. It's very good for the studious (and a convenient stroll to Exley Science Center.) The Foss Hill dorms are another story; nearly half a century old, complete with blonde wood fixtures and sliding picture windows, they sort of look like they belong in an Old Navy ad. But, while they may look retro on the outside, they're extremely comfortable: the long, wide halls accomodate all kinds of meetings and impromptu get-togethers; and there is the added bonus of balconies-- lots of them.

Ziplocky mentioned the new dorms under construction. They should be done by next Fall and will complete the southwest corner of Foss Hill. They will be more traditional looking on the outside, but judging from the blueprints, thoroughly modern on the inside.
