Hello. I have been wondering about the dorm situation at Rochester now that I have been accepted, so I figure I'd ask here so that we can all benefit from the info.

1) When do we receive housing information? I think I remember May sometime?

2) Do we get to choose which house, as freshmen?

3) Is there any chance of getting a single as a freshman?

4) If there are choices for numbers 2 or 3, how can we increase our chances of getting what we want for each?

Thanks guys!

Hey, congratulations.

1) All of the housing stuff is mailed in early May.

2) If you were accepted ED, you get to pick which dorm, but otherwise it's a random assignment.

3) I hope so.

Well, I am going to e-mail/contact U of R to ask about getting a single as a Freshman. I realize some people feel that having a roommate is an important part of the college experience, but being a single child and moving over a thousand miles from "home," I will basically need my own refuge space.

Thanks for the info, hysteron. I am not really concerned about which dorm, they all sound pretty nice, and I'm sure any are "liveable," so to speak.

Hi, is there an option for rd prefrosh to choose chem free dorms. And does Rochester offer any incentive like other colleges for chem free dorms like better rooms and closer locations to the main classes.

I heard that single dorms are VERY hard to get - just rumors. But it seems like that the housing priority is freshmen > senior > junior > sophomore, so... hmm...

Despite everyone's assertions to the contrary, I want a single. I think the whole "roommate experience" thing is very much overrated.

Furthermore, I'm probably really hard to live with. :P

thzxcyl: Where did you "get the idea" that the priority was freshman>senior>junior>sophomore?

Thanks!
Cody

O, I was in Rochester for the Renaissance Weekend and spent a night there talking with my host and her friends. That's what they told me, and they said "They [not exactly sure whom they refer to] love the freshmen!" :)
