Dorms

Is the Yosmite dorm too far away from the rest of campus?

Would you recomend living in a living-learning community, respect community, or freshmen housing? ARe they all sociable?

Can we reserve a spot in a dorm or do we have to do that when we make our deposit?

Thanks!

I would like to know more as well (specifically #1 and #2)

Anyone? Kirbysanmom? haha housing application is almost out!!

My Cousin stayed in the Yosemite dorms. She said it was a bit of a walk, but not horrible. The way she worded it(she sent me an email), she seemed to suggest either Yosemite or Sierra Madre. I went with Sierra Madre. I don't know much though, and I'm trying to remember what she said off the top of my head, beecause i have no idea what happened to the email

Yosemite takes about 2 min longer than Sierra Madre walking, BUT, Yosemite is closer to residents parking area... Yosemite is made up of 10 towers. Tower 0 through 9 as you go clockwise looking at the caomplex from the street. Three floors each, bottom floor has 6 rooms (2 people in each) with a bathroom (two stalls four sinks two showers) The upper two floors have two "halves" like the bottom floor, with a sitting/study room in between. So 12 people first floor, 24 people second floor and 24 people third floor (well, 23 on third floor, RA gets a room to themselves) The tower complex has a main hall area with a TV lounge, mail pick up area and a bi open space for dances, ping pong and just goofing around

Sierra Madre has 6 (is it more?) towers, 3 floors each. RA's on 2nd and third. All rooms open up onto the inner building area, with a big bathroom area in the center. Harder to get away from noise in Sierra Madre, as your room door opens up onto a lounge area, no door between it and your room like Yosemite. Bathroom ratio is slightly better in Yosemite, but still isn't bad. You carry your stuff in and out, red bricks have lockers in their bathroom areas, but that should tell you that rooms are further away from te bathroom ;-)

Hmmm, rooms sizes are about the same, Y vs. SM. Arranged the same also. To me, no difference between the two except for noise level. If you are looking for study buddies and people to hang out with, choose SM. If you study better in a "personal" enviroment ie your room, choose Y. Remember, you can't control your neighbor. You do lots of tower stuff at both complexes, so you will get to know everyone in your tower if you wish. And maybe you don't wish... Just a few more people to deal with in SM per tower than Y. And easier to shut out the inconciderate, low GPA getting, noise making As$#@*es in Y because of the extra doors in Y.

Hope that helps!

THANKS! very thorough :)

anyone know anything about the south mountain halls? whats the diff btwn llp and fyc? blah thanks

Yea, are the Dorms for the specific majors usually more rowdy than the Yosemite and Sierra Madre Dorms? How are the specific major dorms in comparison to the rest
