Hi! I am pretty much positive I will be attending U of I this fall, but I am very confused about where to live. I know that private is more expensive and has worse food than public. I have looked at all the information on the website, but I would like to hear from actual students, honestly. Does 6-pack have a lot of partying? Are the bigger rooms in Illini Towers really worth it? How big are rooms in halls like Allen in comparison with 6-Pack and IT/Bromley? How bad are the bathrooms that are shared with a floor? (These are just sample questions, I’d love to hear anything you have to say).Thank you so much in advance!
Not an expert on this topic, but here is what I know about the food.
We ate at ISR on a Saturday for lunch and the food was not good. I am not a picky eater and thought the food looked ok until I started eating. The chicken was just some frozen fried chicken that seemed to have been fried a couple of times because it was just full of oil. Had fried potatoes that also just seemed to be full of grease at was blackened. Then I tried the rice krispy treats which looked good until I started eating them. The rice krispy treats had some kind of greasy coating at the bottom. I then went back and got a couple of hot dogs which were fine, so the only thing I had were the hotdogs and they were good, but they also seemed kind of greasy.
Went across the street from ISR to Hendricks which is private housing. They were raving about the food there, but we had already had lunch so we were not ready to eat more. But, I have two people I work with that have kids staying at Hendricks and they both say the food is very good. They gave my daughter some iced coffee which she said was very good and she mainly just gets coffee from starbucks.
I heard that Bromley has awful food, but that is just what I heard.
Ikenberry looked very good, but was closed, so not sure.
In general I have heard that the meal plans are very expensive and everyone tends to get the minimum plan and eat out except for Hendricks. One of the kids of a parent at work is staying at an apartment near Hendricks but has a meal plan at Hendricks, so the daughter must like it.
