Dorms

Yeah, but if your roomie isn't right there, you don't have someone to ask a homework question, or go to the dining hall with, or lots of other things. You're still isolated, and I would be wanting to change it too.

OP is an ass. Other people wanted to understand his motives for wanting the rare luxury of a private bathroom, and he jumps down their throats. No one wants to share a bathroom with an entire floor, but it's a sad fact that most students don't get the choics. We wanted to know why you need this luxury when everyone else must suffer. Semiprivates are possible, but these also appear to be unacceptable. Even when simple measures like shower sandals were presented, they were shot down. If it's an irrational fear of public bathrooms, tell us. If it's some personal issue (e.g. if you have a tail and a birth mark that looks remarkably like the words "I'm gay," anything odd you'd like to keep to yourself) you could tell us in general terms so that we'd get off your case and get back to helping you with the problem. Research the school you're attending, find out their possible living arrangements, and pick the best one. If it's a standard dorm, too bad, get something to wear on your feet and take the other reccomendations of the board. If it's semiprivate, you're lucky, and take the reccomendations as you see fit, because semiprivate is a huge step up. If you manage to find a bathroom all for yourself (I'll mention that I've never heard of anything like this unless you buy an apartment for yourself - you're screwed if your college enforces approved housing for the first year), dance around naked, then sit back and enjoy the crapper.

well im going into my freshmen year in highschool, and i agree that when you go into college you should be able to use the public bathrooms with out complaining

i guess it really depends...my brother lives in his own apartment in san francisco for only 500 a month

Well if you are rich in enough to afford your own apartment, then why don't you do it?? NOBODY'S GOING TO ****IN' STOP YOU. In fact, if you are rich enough to do it, why are you asking people on the freakin' forum (99 percent of them will be sharing a bathroom next fall btw) If sharing bathroom is going to bother you that much just do it if you can afford it! Nobody's going to criticize you for it.

Personally I shared my room with my OLDER FREAKIN' BROTHER FOR 13-14 YRS (I'm a girl!) and then with 2 of MY FRIENDS FOR 2-3 yrs. I'm sick of sharing things but if you have to adjust to it, you just do. It hasn't killed anybody in college yet... or the army... or any sports teams.

i'm sure people have been killed for not cleaning up their side of the dorm room, dont even kid yourself

The number of casualties due to dirty dorm rooms/shared bathrooms in 2005 was 245. 15 of those were fatalities, and another 42 were severely wounded and required extensive critical care. So yeah, the statistics prove that things can happen.

dont be a statistic. compromise!

Dude, if you this is the #1 criteria you are going to use for college admissions, why not just stay home with mommy and work at a gas station? jeezus, its not the dorm floors are loaded with feces.

God, its not like you're going to die if you have to share a bathroom. Whats next, you want your own private jacuzzi and your personal sauna?

Seriously, this could be a legitimate question. If you have a really good reason for needing your own private bathroom, I think it is safe to say that most colleges would try to accomodate you. Of course, your really good reason could not just be privacy issues. It would have to be something like identifying as transgendered, or perhaps having a disease that made quick bathroom access necessary. In that case, when you send in your housing forms, let it be known that you need special accomodations.

If the only reason you want one is for privacy, just for privacy's sake, I think you will probably be out of luck.

Its not like you're going to spend the majority of your time in college in a bathroom. Unless you like sleeping in the bathrub or something

and also, if you aren't a loner or psychopath, your roomate will probably not become a "stranger" anymore by the end of the year

Hey SF Boy...are u really that gay???...grow some balls and suck it up....its just a bathroom...goddamn

I agree with Dolphingirl, I'm sure if you have a serious medical condition or some other unusual circumstance and absolutely need a single w/ a bathroom you might be able to be accomodated with a double suite if you pay for the whole thing. Otherwise, if it's just a matter of preference, no college will waste the dorm space if other students need it. Your best bet is just getting an apartment but most schools require an explaination for not living on campus freshman year... "I don't like public bathrooms" is a pretty embarrassing excuse.

Being afraid of other people using the bathroom and seeing their private parts is an embarrassing excuse.

Damn, this thread is still going on? Wow I really must've touched something, well anyways yea retainer if you're not going to be helpful then just f off okay because apparantly your immature antics haven't exactly affected me. And no I really don't care if I say "I don't like public bathrooms" because it's true, and I honestly don't give a **** if someone thinks it's embarressing. Look I've shared a f-ing room for so many years and I kinda want my privacy, and no that doesn't mean I'm antisocial or a loner, because hello, I can still talk to people. So if you're just here to say immature insults then f off, because IT WAS JUST A QUESTION. I don't even care anymore because I'm so tired of arguing, but apparently some people want to continue this thread.

I share OP’s concerns. There’s nothing wrong with wanting more privacy.

^ why did you exactly bump a 2 year post?

Well there isn’t a whole lot of activity here and all the juicy threads are way back. Easy mistake to make.

lol I read the whole thing and thought it was hilarious. this kids probably already starting school lol I wonder if he found his dream dorm hahha
