Dorms?

just didn't really strike me as a place i would want to live. it seemed sort of cramped. I'm only a junior, and like i said, i have almost no basis for comparison. they also didn't really make me like Rice any less. they just weren't spectacular.

which dorm was that?

don't know

weird.. they are only 9 of them... but yeah, they vary so much... my dorm is HUGE

i'm from oklahoma. we drove through the night nine hours on the day i got out of school last year and went straight to rice when we got to houston. i wasn't as awake as i would have liked to be.

i see... but anyways, the nice thing about the res. colleges is that regardless how awesome or not-so-nice the rooms are... eacch one is special and has a unique character and spirit about thhem

Antarius, just for giggles, would you mind breaking down the character of each college, or show a link to a thread that already has this?

Im not sure whether there is another thread and I will try after I get all my homework out of the way

There are many defining tRAditions associated with each college that make them unique, likeably competitive and great fun

I believe this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=246943&page=3&highlight=martel
has a bit of discussion on the residential colleges, although a large portion of it is discussion of Martel.

To restate what has been said over and over again, the dorms vary a lot. However, the worst rooms at Rice are better than the best rooms at a lot of other universities. At almost every college (I believe Hanszen and Will Rice are the exceptions), you will have suite bathrooms at some point in your career. At Lovett, Sid Rich, Wiess, and Martel, you will have suite bathrooms every year. In most of the colleges, you will have a common room for your suite at some point in your career. The rooms that are smaller usually have common rooms attached, and the rooms that don't have common rooms tend to be bigger than normal.

I'm at Lovett, which is widely considered to have the worst rooms, and I'm still very happy with my rooming situation.

I think Baker, WRC dont all have suite bathrooms... Most freshmen though get in a suite of 4. You have a roommate and 2 suitemates.. one common room and a bathroom. I can link a few pics of my room at Wiess if you want

Please do. I'd like some.

sure.... itll take me a little bit, but ill get em up soon

Hanszen and WRC have suite bathrooms in the new(er) wings.

But aren't the suite bathrooms in the newer sections shared by eight people? That hardly qualifies as a suite bathroom.

there aren't any community-style bathrooms, are there?

Well, SOME places have communal bathrooms.. not very many

jakpot is right about the newer WRC and hanszer sections

NYSkins - no. Suite bathrooms are shared by 4 people. At Wiess and martel (the newest of them all) and even Sid, Lovett etc. 4 people share the bathroom - even though Freshmen are 2 per room while Juniors and Seniors are 1 per room. The only difference is Freshmen get 2 large rooms for 4 people while Upperclassmen get 4 smaller rooms for 4 people i.e one eahc

There are a few different rooms.. there are 3 fiveman suites in Wiess and 3 with 3 people. But these are structured differently and are cool

Cornell dorms are persian palaces

All you need to know is the HANSZEN RULES!! :)

The new section Hanszen suite bathrooms are shared by 8 people, but they have 2 of everthing (2 sinks, 2 showers etc.). Eithe suite has 2 bedrooms (2 kids in each room) and a living room. The bathroom is shared with another suite and there is an entrance to the bathroom from each suite.

D had a bizarre room (4 girls again) on the top of old section (seemed like the 4th floor or something- a tower) which was really cramped. It had a large room with the 4 beds and then a living room. The bathroom was outside the suite and was shared with a couple other rooms, I think.

i beg to differ momofwildchild :D

On a serious note, the new dorms are all really nice. Even the old ones, when compared to many other places.... OWNS
