I couldn’t find a detailed description of each dorm in the perspective of a current BU student or one who’s familiar with BU… so can i get input on the more social/fun dorms at BU for freshmen?

I’ve heard a LOT of people say the dorm policies [partying, visitors, etc] at BU are really strict. Is that changing this year? in what way?

Depends on the dorm your in. West has more showers per floor. Warren has 3 showers per floor. So the 20-something of us shared the 3, it wasn't too bad.

most warren floors have 2 or 3 showers per bathroom. most west campus floors have 3 or 4. and the only towers floor i've visited had about 6 (towers has single-sex floors though).

i live at west and my floor has 3 showers. in the 2 years i've been here, i've had to wait for a shower a total of 2 times. everyone just has different schedules and different preferences for when to shower. don't take the number of showers so seriously when you're choosing dorms.

Went to open house yesterday and saw Warren Towers. The rooms sucked. I felt as though I was in a cell. I can't imagine living there. Can anyone recommend bigger rooms? And what's the deal with having apartments? Can freshmen apply for those?

Um yeah I was at the same open house this weekend and was very impressed with the dorms at Warren Towers. For freshman dorms I thought they were pretty nice compared to other rooms I have seen on other campuses even of upperclassmen. It's all part of the experience. You'll live.

You don't have to list Warren on your housing thing. My kid didn't list any large dorms and ended up in a small dorm, in a large double. The roommate was nuts but that's a risk anywhere, and she left after one term. Her replacement was much, much better. Once you're in a dorm, you can elect to stay there - in your room or in your building - or you can go into the larger BU community for room selection. That process has been going on now.

Warren was a blast to live in. Its such a tight-knit community and everyone is so interactive and social. Each floor is like a collective unit and everyone there makes tons of friends that will remain close throughout college and beyond. It is a great place to live during freshman year. Sure, the rooms are small and the bathrooms kind of suck. But its all part of the "intro to college" experience. Trust me, its really not that bad. You have everything at your disposal in a dorm that big.

Freshmen don't have much choice on housing placement. A freshman will most likely get into Warren Towers, the Towers, and West. Some lucky people can get into Holiday Inn or Shelton. If you want to live in large + nice rooms like Shelton or Brownstone, I'd suggest you put Hyatt as your first choice in your housing selection list (even though its really far away from the campus...).

If you get to live in the Hyatt (which is a very small portion among freshmen), you will have the option to choose to move into Shelton/Brownstone in the second semester.

I lived in Warren for 6 weeks over the summer...when I first got there on move-in day, I thought the same exact thing...it looked like a prison. But I ended up loving it--you meet so many new people, and everything is right there and so convenient...big dining hall, computer lab, close to Kenmore Square, and right by COM and CAS.

the main dorms that freshmen live in are warren towers, towers, and west campus. the standard double in each of them are about the same size. of the 3, the closest to COM is warren.

i'm guessing you'll be in COM and you're trying to figure out which dorm is closest to your classes. but remember that not all your classes will be in the COM building. just because a course name has "COM" in it doesn't necessarily mean it'll be held in the COM building. plus u won't be taking 4 COM classes anyway.

which ones are better? warren towers, towers, or west? or are they pretty similar? do they have different reputations? [which ones are more social?]

i still find it weird and really inconvenient that there are no sorority houses in the area. so all the girls in sororities just live in one of the dorms? i know i wna rush for sure, but since greek life's not big at BU... i dont know.

how are roomates assigned at BU anyway? randomly?

Roommates are chosen randomly. But even so few people have serious problems with their roommates. You may not be best friends, but it's all fine.

Warren and West are very very similar. Just West tends to have more CGS, SHA, CFA, and sports kids. While warren pretty much has everyone else.

Towers is smaller than the other two but still similar in a lot of ways. All three dorms tend to have mostly freshman.

And there's no law that says you can't move in with some sorority friends after freshman year. There just aren't set houses. It's because of an old blue law in Massachusetts. It used to be that more than 5 (or something like that) unrelated girls couldn't live together or the place was considered a brothel. seriously. not a real law now, but BU never caught up and created greek houses.
