Dorms

Where are you putting down as your dorm choice, and for those that already attend, which is considered the best/worst?

The best info on the dorms can be found via the BU Backdoor site. Go to livejournal.com and search under Boston Univ. in the interest section. There are links for the BU class of 08 and 09 plus BUNITE. On all of them, especially the latter, you'll see many threads about the pros and cons of each dorm and townhouses. Our s, a Freshman, chose WEST. Its a little further than Warren and the ones in the center but it has a little more of a campus atmosphere with more green spaces and benches and three buildings with a common court yard and dining hall that is considered one of the best. Although not a jock, his friends enjoy being so close to the new Student Village with the cafes and courtyards and the new arena and rec. center with the lazy river. His view out these huge windows is of the field, the river, and the city skyline. I think he would have preferred one of the triple/quad suites with their own Bathroom down on Comm Ave. but WEST was a good experience...not as zoo like as Warren. A couple female students told me their building in WEST, while co-ed on the floor, has the boys and girls on seperate wings more or less so theres a little more privacy with walks to your bathroom and all. Of course that might be a negative for some. The down side for WEST is the walk especially if you have an early class in the Winter and are too frugal to take the T. Check out the sites on LJ.

dogs, I checked the LJ sites and had trouble finding the housing information. Could you post a link?

Also, are you putting down FIVE choices? Are there FIVE dorms that house freshmen??

Yes. You have to put down five choices. There are very few residences that explicitly bar Freshman (I [i[think* Myles does). instead, as I understand it, housing tends to congregate Freshmen in Warren. Another possible explanation is that more upperclassmen choose specialty housing over the big dorms.

True that overwhelmingly Freshman end up in warren, Towers, or west --yet there are still a percentage of Freshman in other dorms. I think asking for 5 also takes into consideration that some kids have a preference for a specialty dorm like the Honors Housing, language houses or a same gender floor.

Article in BU newspaper about Warren Towers:

No dorm specifically "bars" freshmen from, including Myles. I know some freshmen in Myles. You just have to be very lucky to get it, even if you put it as your first choice.

Well, you need to be a junior or senior to live in the village.

do you? i thought i heard of a freshman who was able to swap in for 2nd semester. i could be remembering wrong tho.
