Dorms

Please answer the following questions if you can. Thanks.

I hear that Broward and Jennings are considered the very social dorms. Besides that, are they and other traditional-style dorms (such as Rawlings, Mallory, Reid, Graham, Simpson, Trusler, Tolbert, etc.) pretty much the same?

By looking through some of the previous threads, it seems like people reluctantly recommend Beaty Towers to freshmen. It this still the case? And it is because it’s not as social as the other traditional dorms?

well number one is correct...those are the social dorms. however, broward and jennings are known to be the most nastiest dorms on UF campus as well. for number two, beaty towers is a mixture of freshmen and upperclassmen. i do not feel that it is one of the "understood" freshmen housing residences in any way.

which dorms would you recommend to a freshman? i don't want a dorm that is too social, nor do i want one that is too quiet. in other words, i'm fine midway.

yeah i'd like somewhere midway too. I don't know what to pick!! I've heard I should pick Jennings and Broward (at least for summer) because you can meet the most freshman there, which I obviously want. But, I don't really want to be in the nastiest dorms on campus. Help?

i'd like to be able to be social some days, study some days.
please help, anyone?

To start off, even though dorms have their certain steriotypes. The people that live on a floor or in a section is whats makes the atmosphere of that environment. (e.g. there can be dead quiet floors in Broward)

I feel some of the "midway" dorms include yulee, mallory, reid (bathrooms are awesome in those three), sometimes rawlings, graham, weaver, maybe trusler*, and maybe murphree (but some sections are more social than others). The ones I mention are all close to a library, so you can study their, if needed.

*indicates west campus

The "most nastiest"? Oh dear. shakes head

Are the window units ridiculously loud?

Sometimes Rawlings?? What does that even mean...

Maybe is probably a better choice of words. Reasoning is the overflow from Broward sometimes ends up living in Rawlings, so it can get like Broward.

I would think any of the traditional dorms are a good pick. I think I've said this before but, I was absolutely against communal bathrooms and I've adjusted well. Its not that big of a deal. Now, if you REALLY have a phobia (extreme) about using public bathrooms, then consider a more private situtation. But, really, its not a big deal.

Mallory was remodeled so those dorms are pretty nice compared to others that have not been renovated.

I have a friend in Trusler who really likes it. The whole floor gets along and it seems like a good environment.

Of course, its ultimately up to the people who live there. I know people in "social dorms" that arent all that social.

Beaty is not all that great, I thought it wasnt that nice.

Another option could be Weaver. Its the international dorm. I think its pretty cool to think that you could be living with someone from another part of the world as opposed to another part in florida.

if you have any other questions, need more elaboration, just ask/pm me.

I mentioned this in another dorm thread. I absolutely agree.
