Ok, so i've looked over all the dorms and each have their own positives and negatives and just can't decide. I really like Uhall because of the kitchen+proximity to the gym, but is it worth the cost? Then again everyone says traditional style allows you to meet more people and is more social. So please can someone persuade me to choose a dorm.

it really depends on what you’re looking for.

uhall (i’m biased because i live here) is the newest, and the rooms are nice, decently sized. the cafe is pretty good, and there’s a dunkin donuts in the building. i personally think the extra money is worth it. third north is apartment style like uhall, but i’d say uhall is nicer (third north has a bigger/more options in the dining hall though). both uhall and third n are about a 10 minute walk to classes (but it’s really no big deal, keeps off the freshman 15). if you’re looking for huge rooms, brittany’s are pretty big, but imo they’re kind of crummy. weinstein is really social and close to classes, and you have upstein/downstein (dining halls), but it also goes by the nickname “the concrete prison,” so take that as you will. hayden is social as well, but the rooms aren’t really fantastic (there’s a dining hall though, and it’s pretty close to classes). rubin is comparable to hayden, and there’s a dining hall there too. goddard is small, the rooms aren’t that big, but it’s a residential college experience (if you’re into that) and starbucks is directly downstairs. it’s also right in the middle of campus.

I should point out as well that the dining halls vary in quality. For example, my Rubin friends say that no one goes to the Rubin dining hall except for them, since it’s so bad. People tend to like Palladium’s dining hall, which is famous for its Sunday brunch. Hayden’s all right, not my favorite, but some people really like the ice cream there. Weinstein is the only one with fast food, and Uhall’s is supposed to be really healthy.

I live in Hayden, and I’m a REALLY picky eater…you have no idea…and I actually enjoy the food at the dining hall. It’s close to Kimmel, which is also a good spot for eating, and it’s the closest you’ll be to classes (except being at Goddard and Weinstein on the other side of Washington Square Park). The only general problem with NYU dining is that it gets quite repetitive. The dorm rooms at Hayden (for doubles, anyway…the low cost triples are cramped) are a good size for NYU and amazing for a dorm room in general. I’m really happy with my choice of Hayden, because of its location (at least for my Writing the Essay/Theatre Studies courses…studio is in Union Square for me) and overall social-ness. In my opinion, the best dining halls are Kimmel, Palladium, and Hayden (I, however, have only eaten at Third North once and I’ve never eaten at U-Hall, so I can’t really comment on those…I didn’t like my one 3N experience, however haha…but I’ve eaten at all the other ones).

Can you be placed in a lct if you dont apply for one, like in Rubin i know theres a lot of lct’s

Yep, and it does often work out in ways that people who don’t request LCTs get them, but those who do (like me ) don’t.

) don’t.

that sucks, lol.

whats lct’s?

LCTs are low-cost triples. Basically they squeeze three people into a space meant for two.
