Dorms

Which schools have the best dorm rooms? worst? Tell any experiences about what dorms you visited.

St. Paul's has by far some of the greatest dorm rooms. And I'm not just saying that because I'm partial.

Also, from what our family saw, Taft had the worst. although its possible the dorm they showed us was a poor dorm.

cate's dorm rooms had baloconies, and on some you could see the ocean.

well i think al the schools have their share of bad dorms....all of the new dorms at choate, hotchkiss, st.pauls are really nice....at st.pauls they have rooms with two levels...it was pretty cool.....but choate's is the best lol and im saying that cause i love choate

We weren't even allowed to go look at the dorms in Milton but the tourguide said there were rats!

I couldn't distinguish between any of the other schools I looked at (Andover, Exeter, Groton, Taft, SPS and Choate) but maybe because I was so inattentive...

the dorms I saw at Exeter were singles and pretty nice

One thing for sure - most boarding school dorm rooms are much better than what you'll find in college!

Interesting point Creative. When I saw dorms that reminded me of college it was a negative in my mind. There were a few like that to be sure. I wanted the dorms to be more home like and less instutitional for our son.

I would have to agree that Cate's were the best. They all had balconies, some with hammocks which you could lie in and overlooking the Pacific.

deerfields were all singles and quite large

I know that Choate just built some ssssiiiccckk new dorms! :)

But yeah, I guess it basically depends on the age of the school. Some dorms will be older and obviously not as nice, and some will be slightly more..luxurious?

Make the most of it though!! :)

groton has some pretty sick nasty (aka wicked cool) designs for their rooms especially lower school

Are you serious? Those dorms would be awful. Absolutely no privacy. Lights out. How could you every study? If anybody was talking anywhere else in the dorm you could hear them.

I couldn't imagine.

oh lower school is less uptight
though its still hard but there are certain lights out in lowerschool so it doesnt affect anything
in upper school the dorms are very different

and surprisingly the lower school dorm design brings everyone so close you get to know a lot of people in just a couple of days

NMH has okay dorms for freshmen, and really nice dorms for sophomores and upperclassmen.

This is a good thread. Can anybody tell me about what they think about the dorms at:
Milton
Hotchkiss
Groton
Choate
St. Paul's
?
I'd be entering as a soph girl if it helps/changes things.

Does anybody know about Peddie?

i saw one dorm at Peddie.....it was OK but not great. it was a double and i didn't see any sitting area (although there might of been one).

I was just looking at this map of the Exeter campus and I noticed the dorms..can anyone tell me which one of these are for girls? any other information that can be said about the ones for girls is also very appreciated!
(I listed them in groups of which ones are closer to the other ones on the map...I thought that might separate them a little; like a guys dorm is next to a guys dorm right? I also basically listed every single building that had Hall as its last word so some might not be dorms haha)

McConnell Hall
Cilley Hall

Amen Hall

Wentworth Hall
Bancroft Hall
Webster Hall
Dunbar Hall

Jeremiah Smith Hall (*I don't know if this is a dorm but it has Hall at the end, it was unnaturally big on the map though so it might not be..I don't know)

Wheelwright Hall (*same for this one)

Hoyt Hall
Soule Hall
Abbot Hall

Peabody Hall

Thanks :]

i agree with the cate dorm comments. the size was adequate to put all the necessary furniture in, and the balcony/view was a nice bonus.

i know! the cate dorms were really, really nice. And what I saw of the Choate dorms really impressed me as well.
