Dorms

Does anyone have an estimate percentage of students who live in dorms vs off-campus?

I heard that it's hard to get a dorm because there aren't many available, is this true?

I'm trying to go to UT for Spring Semester, do they still have dorms for students entering then?

I started in the spring and was able to get a dorm room at Jester. I'm sure if you sign up when you are suppose to, you'll be fine.

College Search - University of Texas at Austin - UT - Housing & Campus Life

Yes, there is always space available on campus in the spring semester. Students vacate space when they graduate or join study abroad programs.

Thanks

I find it weird that only 20% live college housing, that's a small percentage.

Do you think finding a dorm in San Jacinto or Duren w/ private bath would be hard?

There really are not that many on campus spaces at UT, given the number of students at the college. I only know the honors dorms - there are a fair number of sophomores over in the honors dorms, but only a few juniors. I think there are a higher proportion of sophomores and juniors in Duren and San Jac.

Yes, I think that it would be possible for a student who is new in Spring 2010 to get a shared room in Duren or San Jac in the spring, moving in with the roommate of someone who had gone abroad. Is that your plan?

Yes that's my plan: living in San Jacinto/Duren for Spring 2010.

Thanks for the input.

Please know that students who are living in the halls may want to move to other halls over the winter break. There is no way we would be able to tell you which hall you can live in for the Spring until we know who is leaving, who is moving and who is new.
