Best Dorms
Ones to stay away from...he he
Just general questions and advice...help future Cornellians out!!

I don’t think we get to choose dorms unless you want a program house or all women hall.

So how many people end up in doubles? My parents want me in a double but I really don’t want one… I want a single. If I put double as my first choice, and then single single single as my next 3 choices, does it seem likely I’ll get “stuck” in a single  What if I just put single. Will my parents be able to look at it later on and see that I requested a single? haha.

No your parents shouldn’t be able to see that - I requested a single and mine don’t know lol. And you cannot choose your dorm unless you want a program house or Balch, so unless you want that it’s not worth stressing over.

Oh yeah, I know we can’t choose, I just would prefer to be in a single. I just wonder if say I ended up in a single, and they called the admissions office to see why, if they could look on my app and say “well his first choice was a single…” I mean, I’ll be picking up the extra 1k on my student loans anyway, so i don’t see why they care, but whatever. Right now it’s double, single, single, single on my app, so maybe they’ll get the hint that I really want a single. haha.

I’ll change it to single though if I know my parents won’t be able to ever check, but idk.

i chose single and they gave me a double =(

hmm, im wondering about Balch. the idea of a co-ed dorm seems like woo! co-ed! at first but then you think about the common bathrooms and dirty, stinky, loud boys around and im betting living in balch would actually be a pretty good thing. anybody have any comments about Balch vs co-ed?

You’ll get differing opinions from the girls. From a guy’s perspective, I think Balch is pretty amazing. It’s clean, quiet, has good programming, big screen TV downstairs, there’s the Womyn’s Center where you can rent DVD’s, there’s a tutoring center where you can get feedback on essays and such, etc. I lived in Donlon, which is like the opposite of Balch and it was nowhere near as nice. For laidback chicks and girly girls, I think it’s a great place to live. I think the main complaints are from girls who like hanging out with guys all the time.

balch also has its own coffee shop with snacks and sandwiches

balch along with risley are the closest to central campus…although risley is quite a bit aways from RPCC…

there are plenty of guys who spend their time in balch though they need to be escorted by a female at all times (RAs can write you up for this)

how about the townhouses? I noticed that we can choose a townhouse as an option first year.

Yea, I’ve gotten in trouble for wandering around Balch trying to find the guy’s bathroom. Didn’t realize I needed my gf to hold my hand while I went to the bathroom.

Proximity to central campus and the cafe are two additional pluses.

the townhouses are a pretty good community. and definitely a big plus if you like to party and hang out. the ample room gives plenty of room for freshman pong games.

they are dominated by transfers and jocks (both male and female) but are a good deal…and close enough to rpcc dining hall (closer than balch)

I chose a double but got a single. it seems there are a large number of singles, with Dickson and balch being primarily singles and each suite of people in high rise 5, jameson, court/kay/bauer and mews have a few singles too (1-3 in each maybe?)

if you plan on having hookups please request a single…

if you find yourself to be out of luck with the ladies/gentlemen…then please request a double…

i hate seeing/knowing of people getting sexiled out of their double rooms…especially when the roomate doing the sexiling requested a double…

what’s the deal with the quad option? Do these share their own bathroom? Are they made up of singles?

There’s no information about this on the site, nor does it say which houses have them. I just noticed it on the room preferences of the application.

most of the quads will be in the townhouses or in hasbrouck apartments…for these i think there’s 1 bathroom for 4 of you…

there might be some quads scattered in other places on campus…other quads who knows…

just wondering, on the housing for they give you a place to request, doubles, singles, quads, with four spaces. Could you put double for all four if you really want a double? or do you have to rank your choices. << for balch if it makes a difference.

balch actually has some of the sweetest rooms…even if they are triples or quads…

balch girls get a washroom in their rooms ^^

I think in donlon there are “quads” - 2 double rooms that have just pretty much beds and dressers on either side of another room with desks shared by 4 people. So it’s kind of like 3 rooms for 4 people, with the center room being shared, but I don’t think there are very many of them.

If i put quad down as my first choice and make my preference very lively and put background noise for everything do you think i’d get donlon? lol

I want a social dorm soo bad.
