Can you get individual dorms when applying as a freshman undergraduate ?

No. Some freshman dorms have single rooms, but those go to the Peer Advisers. It is possible to get a single room if your roommate moves out or you’re not assigned a roommate, but you have no control over either situation.

You’re more likely to be put into a triple than a single.

Unless you have an incredibly pressing medical issue, you probably won’t get it.
Roommates are fun though. It’s all about the college experience!

Just to clarify, Georgia Tech does NOT have triple rooms. They do have quad rooms on the corners of each hall, but these also have twice as much room, and offer the ability to set up a sleeping section and a working section, which some students prefer to traditional two-person rooms. Quads are also slightly cheaper.

Why would having a single room be advantageous for you?

They offered triple rooms in 2006 when Admissions admitted too many students (the accept rate was higher than expected):

I suspect the previous mistake would have resulted in increased caution in estimations for years after 2006, meaning that it is not likely to happen again.

Agreed. Also, didn’t Tech get the North Avenue Apartments in 2007? That should have freed up considerable housing space.
