Dorms?!

So I am 100% sure I want to go to Bard, 90% sure i will be able to. Just wondering if anyne can tell me anything about the dorms. I’ve heard some pretty bad stuff, like people ending up with NO housing or people ending up in legit trailors. Have they fixed the housing crises or what?

^^ The bad news first…

Housing is tight. Make-shift dorms are in.

The good news next…

Guaranteed housing first two years. Excellent off-campus housing very close by (2 minutes away). Many students actually *want to *live off-campus by the time they’re seniors. Those who live in make-shift trailers actually bond very closely, and it’s a source of pride for them. At a Halloween party a couple of years ago, several dressed up as “trailer trash”.

I think it worries parents a great deal more than it worries the kids. The kids I’ve spoken to take it all in stride.

Thanks! I love the school so its not like the dorms would make that much a difference, just seems like there is a huge variety of dorms there so I wanted to know what to expect.

Our son was a freshman in one of the “treehouses” this year. When we were told they were “doublewide trailers” we were a little concerned. But the reality was that they were quite comfortable, clean and well-maintained. He had a nice room with a roommate – with a view of the woods from their window! The best part was the big shared kitchen, where lots of social activity took place. All in all, he’s had a terrific first year. The people and the academics have been off the charts.

Don’t fret about the trailers! The kids LOVE them and they have huge rooms and kept up nicely. And they really do bond and feel a sense of pride. The teachers and programs more than make up for it. Our child had a greeeeeat first year.
