dorms

are dorm open during christmas break?

yes, but i don’t think you can swipe into them, you have to show the guards your ID.

oh ok thanks!! i don’t have to pay extra $$ to stay there over break right? also… lol would it be possible to smuggle in a friend for a couple of days? usually do a lot of people go home for break?

thanks!!

i heard you can stay there over break.

is this incorrect?

just visited. tour guide explained that tuition covers you for winter break so you’re welcome to stay.

Right, the room can be used from August - May, including breaks. During the breaks, it does get pretty desolate, but there are people around here and there. Over Christmas break there’s an NYU web site that organizes all the activities, including those at the dorms, that will be going on. There’s special little movie nights, outings, etc. And, yes, you can sneak someone in for a few nights. As long as it’s okay with your roommates, if they’re there, it’s okay, and the guest has to leave ID with the guard while they’re there and sign in. I believe the max is for 3 nights, but if you have nice guards and you’re not causing a problem, can probably stretch it a little.

Isn’t there an intersession during the winter break? Do kids take classes?

people take classes, chinablue. but they’re insane, five days a week for three hours. they’re very condensed. but people take them in order to be eligible to take a certain class in the spring, for instance. it’s not very common. many more people take summer classes than winter classes.
