The answer is yes.

So in other words, Goddard is never anyone’s second choice? Like, you can’t get accepted to Goddard and then decline the acceptance and stay in the choice you put down first on the housing application?

Also, what kinds of things do they wanna know when you apply to Goddard? How do they pick who gets in and who doesn’t? Do they want kids with a lot of community service, or something?

Oh, and one more thing: is it necessary for ED acceptees to turn in their housing app right away, or will they really still get priority housing even if they turn it on at the end of May?

is it possible for freshmen to get singles? how do you go about requesting one?

YES for “i will be assigned another dorm according to my preference order”?

ballet, a freshman getting a single is practically unheard of. I’m sure it happens, but rarely. If you have some sort of medical condition that is documented that requires a single, contact the housing office re: how to get that through.

so whats the difference between goddard, i understand its a residential college, but how does that differ from rubin other than u have to write essays, also which dorm is closest to nyu tisch dance building, THANKS!

how big are the LC triples in Rubin?? and are there bugs?
thanks

Yeah, can someone post a thorough “review” of Rubin please? I’d definitely appreciate it because I’m thinking of doing the Low Cost Triple option.

Edit: I found this link that’s really helpful on Rubin. http://nyuhousing.wikispaces.com/Rubin

However, anyone who is presently living there or know someone living there please post! Thanks a lot guys, very helpful thread!! :)

My daughter lived in a LCT in Rubin as a freshman. For the cost it was really doable. The Location is superb, right on 5th Ave just below Washington Square. It has a dining hall and in a very nice neigborhood. The way they configured the room, gave everyone some privacy. It was a little tight, but definitely doable. The downside , no AC. But they did have 2 fans in the room.

couple of modifications to milkandsurgar’s comment…it’s right north of Wash Sq on 5th ave, past 10th Street I believe.

And yes, it has a dining hall. But would you really want to eat there? Nah.

I live in Rubin right now and honestly, i like it. Okay the dining hall, compared to the other dining halls, I would have to say is the worst but it’s eatable. even though its not the BEST at NYU, it’s not that bad and its convenient if you’re in that mood when you really dont want to go out. rubin has a pretty nice lounge too on the 2nd floor. We have a piano room, a dance studio/room, ping pong, pool table, big screen TV, black box theater, dark room for photography people, and a nice study lounge. it’s a good place to hang out.

Hayden and Brittany also have LCT, and I think out of the three LCT dorms, rubin has the smallest LCT rooms… i’m in a LCT and as milkandsugar said, it’s doable. I think LCT rooms also have different sizes. i am actually in the smallest LCT room in rubin, I think… and I like it. they usually come with 2 beds that are bunked and one bed that’s not. before we unbunked the beds, it was actually really nice. but if you unbunk the beds, there aren’t that much space but it has that “coziness.” haha. one bad thing is that the closet is REALLY small… especially because you’re sharing it with 2 other people. Right now, the closet in my room is used by 2 people and the 3rd person brought in her own hanger kinda thing to hang her clothes. About bugs… I actually havent had any problems… i saw a really tiny spider like once this whole year. But I heard that the first 5 floors have mice problems? I heard about mice in the 7th floor this year too. I know mice aren’t bugs but i know some people still don’t like the thought of having mice in your rooms.

But if you want a bigger LCT, you might want to look into brittany and hayden. Hayden’s closer to campus… it’s right next to Washington Square Park so I have a friend who has a view of the park from her room. And Hayden also has a dining hall. Brittany is on East 10th, between University Pl and Broadway… so its pretty close to Rubin. So a lot of Brittany residents come to Rubin for dining hall since it doesnt have dining or they go to Weinstein.

But if you are interested in Rubin, I would tell you to do it. rubin is actually the cheapest dorm here and since NYU tuition is already horrible, i would say rubin is worth it. my roommates and i have actually talked about how we would love to live in rubin for our 4 years at NYU just because of the cost. if you think about the cost, it isn’t bad.

Thanks shjk515 I went to the accepted student open house today and toured Rubin. I liked it and it wasn’t too bad at all. The girl did mention that you needed to have a low EFC to qualify for LCT. I was wondering if a $17k EFC was low enough to qualify? Another quick question: it smelled like smoke in the hallway, is this common?? Do a lot of people smoke and stink it up? I guess it’s prob a minor one haha

Thanks for your help :)

That is not true about a LCT. We have a high EFC and my D was in a Rubin LCT.

I agree. Unless they’ve just made it a new rule, you don’t need a low EFC to get a LCT.

The downside to Brittany is that there’s no dining hall at all. So on a cold rainy Saturday, do you really want to go out just to get food? Rubin’s food isn’t the best, but it’s okay. And you can use your meal plan at any dining hall; you’re not locked in to one place.

Hayden also has LCTs, but it also has a/c, so you only get around $2,500 or so “reduction” in your housing. Having no a/c gets you another $2,500 off your housing bill. (By “reduction” I mean price differential. Last year, Rubin LCT was around $6k; a normal double in a dorm with a/c was around $10k-$11k.)

Definitely a great area to live in, too. No bugs or rodents that I heard about. Smoking not a typical problem.

I have already completed my application and sent in my payment. However i still do not have roommate(s)yet, so will that hurt my chance of getting my first choice (hayden)?

No that should not have any effect. The best way to get your first choice is to choose some type of explorations foor.

What exactly is that and how does it work? I don’t think I saw it in the application, did i miss it somewhere?

So, I really want to go to Founders, but im afraid the rate will be too much. Does anyone know the rate for a double room with 2 people (Not the low cost or the suite)? I absolutely loved the new and clean look. I dont care about the distance.

This is the link to the rates for all of the housings. For some reason they did not include Founders. Also, when they give the amount do they include meal plans?

the price founders is not there
what is the price?

sorry to be mean, but i wouldnt be posting this question up if i knew LOL
