Dorms!

no you have to bring it but they cost like $5 or less

cool, cool. hojo is back on top :D

Hanita is right. Every room comes with ports for ethernet. There’s one port per person. You bring your own ethernet cable and can plug into the ethernet. Even if you don’t get wireless, you can always get ethernet in the room.

http://www.unconventionalbelts.com/files/standardcable.jpg</a></p>

The cable looks like this and comes in a variety of colors. The colors don’t mean anything. There should be a port on your laptop/desktop for the cable to be plugged in. The first time you plug into BU’s system it verifies that you have an authentic operating system and that you didn’t steal one. It also checks for viruses and they provide with a free anti-virus if you need one.

question! im a rising sophomore and im not sure where to live next year i think i want to live in towers to meet people since i dont really feel like i connected with those on my floor here this year. its mostly cuz i have nothing in common with them and have no classes with them either since i live in west but i am in smg. only thing is im not sure if i wanna go through the whole communal bathroom thing again. i saw some of the bathrooms in towers and some of them are horrible. so i was thinking about shelton or hojo. but apparently they have unsocial environments =/ comments? suggestions? help! housing decisions are next week!

I live in Hojo and I can agree it’s not easy to make friends. Like I’ve stated before several times, it’s not that people are unfriendly but that you have to go out of your way to befriend them. Most people have friends and while everyone will greet you or make smalltalk, but if you want to be friends with them you have to make an effort because most people don’t have their doors open so you can’t wander in or anything like that.

Hey guys, I’m a CAS (econ-major) and my list so far is…

1.Warren
2. Towers
3. West
4. 1019
5. Warren

Aside from Warren, I really have no clue about any of the other places (brownstones, lol whut?)
Anyone wanna help me out a little bit (specifically the upper classmen on this thread). What exactly are the differences between each housing option? Which would you recommend, on the basis of my major and the fact I’m a pretty social, multi-cultured stuff-liking guy, etc.

I would put Hojo (575) before West or 1019. You won’t get into 1019 as a first year and Hojo is muuuuuch closer than West.

“housing decisions are next week!”

…what?

This week and next week upperclassmen are choosing housing. Maybe he means that?

I guess I know why Warren’s good (where freshman tend to be) but what’s good about the other places, like Towers, West and Hojo? Or bad, for that matter?

oh sorry thisgirlisaG. Nickel Xenon is right. i meant that we have to choose where we want to live next week. sorry for the confusion!

Dance pe chance: towers is also a pretty freshman/sophomore dominated place so that would definitely be a great alternative to warren. hojo is not very social but you have your own bathroom so i wouldnt recommend that as your first choice but it is possible you may get put there. west is also really freshman crazy. its a more party/go out alot environment and the food here rocks :]

Warren is social, but noisy. But it is cross the street from CAS. Towers and Hojo are about the same distance from CAS (a block or so, a 5-10 minute walk). Towers has a dining hall and tends to be quieter than Warren but still social. Hojo is the least social. That can be a good or bad thing. I like it because I can study in my room. I hardly ever hear anyone talk in the hall and if I do it’s just a few seconds while they walk to their room. But yes, private bathrooms can be a plus. The bad part of Hojo is that it doesn’t have a dining hall but it does have a cafe. You can just go to the dining hall in Towers, though. If you like parties, West is the closest to the party scene. It has a lot of athletes too since it’s near the gym. The bad part is that it’s kind of removed from the center of campus and CAS.

is it going to be so noisy in warren to the point where one can’t study quietly?

I think that might depend on your floor. I visited my friend a few times and it was very noisy in the halls all the time. But I didn’t visit enough times to make a judgement if it’s like that always.

can anyone post pics of your dorms…and if you live in warren a pic of the mini gym thing…
i know that there are videos and such online but i feel its better coming from a student who is being legit with us

ismashcorner, I live in Warren right now. I’d agree that it probably does vary on each floor.

My floor is a very bonded floor though. We all like each other a lot and hang out in the common room/people’s rooms. Despite this, it is hardly ever too noisy for me to do work in my room. I study here easily and so do most of my friends. A lot of people even do homework in the common room. If the common room gets too loud from people talking, you can just shut the doors. With the doors shut, it’s really not that disruptive at all. Weekends probably get the loudest during the first few weeks at night. People get more subdued about their partying over time though. Just like you get used to hearing the T and sirens go by on Comm Ave, you get used to any of the other noises too.

If for some reason it was super loud, we do have quiet hours in place. No one is TOO much of a stickler about them; but, if you’re outrageously loud, you will probably get a warning from the RA. If you don’t quiet down to a normal level, you’d get a noise violation. Obviously, they’re pretty lenient about this…but if it got really bad, you always could go to your RA.

[Warren Towers 14 B](Warren Towers 14 B) I posted this here earlier I think. It’s a photogallery done by 2 students a couple years ago. I live on the same floor now and I guarantee you this is exactly what it looks like. Only the tables, sofas and chairs in the common room are slightly different.

http://www.bustudentunion.com/upload/backdoor.doc</a> this guide has pics of all the dorms taken by students. There is a little photo of the Warren gym. It’s more like just an excercise room, really. 3 treadmills, 4 elipticals, bunch of bikes and steppers.

I can dig through my floormates facebooks if you want some more pics of Warren.

can anyone elaborate a tad on towers? or is it basically just a less-loud/slightly farther away from CAS version of warren?

The dining hall is a lot smaller than the one for Warren and it’s in the basement.

if i wait until the 20th to pay my deposit and fill out my rooming survey, would it pretty late? is the dorming choices on a first come first served?
