so this has prolly been asked countless times, but does anyone in the class of 2009 know what dorm they hope to be in next year? and can any current/former cornellians offer any information about which dorms suit certain interests (i.e. studying, partying, etc.)??

theres a thread with mad posts on it by perro that has good answers to this.

Balch is all girls, nice rooms

Donlon is the party dorm and was there way back in the day, at least since the 60s (my dad remembers it)

Court and Mews Are new (2001) and modern. Slightly smaller rooms than Donlon I think, but they have cable TV, and the general layout is a main hall with common rooms off it. Each common room has a few doubles or singles which share a bathroom. So that means no sharing a bathroom with 60 people.

There are program houses, which are great for special interests like JAM (just about music) but IMO those won't be good for frosh year because I wan't to meet all kinds of people, not just ones who gravitate toward music or languages or whatever.

There are other dorms like the hi and lo rise, townhouses, and dickson, but I don't remember much about them.

My choice would be a Court/Mews single.

you will live in a shoebox.

wait i'm really confused!
if the housing lottery is January 24-February 11 for the 05-06 year then what will happen to the RD people?

don't worry about housing lottery - that is for the continuing students.

oh ok whew
that was scary

when do ED students have to specify their dorm of preference. i just want sth modern

We get a packet april 1 or w/e. Or you can do it online I think. Cool... I cant wait!

Wait, do ED peeps get preference in dorm selection then?? I thought it was all random?

no preference
