Double Counting

I'm curious, what is the policy on double counting credits. Say, hypothetically I am doing a major in math and some hard science. Naturally some of the science requirements are going to be some math courses, a couple of calcs etc. Can I count these credits to both my math major and my science major? Also, can I count credits to both t-reqs and my major. If, hypothetically, I am majoring in a science, do I have to take maths and sciences other than the ones I'm using to complete my major in order to complete the general requirements? It seems like double counting would in some cases be inevitable.

yes, double counting happens... I think that there are two engineering majors that can easily be double majored it, as in the difference between majoring in one and majoring in both is one class (haha... an engineer might be able to explain this with some more concrete details).

And yeah, you do get credit for t-reqs from classes that you take for your major. That's why in some cases, if you just follow your major(s), you don't have to worry about taking specific classes just to fulfill t-reqs. At least that's true for science majors.

beware of the math major+a hard science. I WANTED to do chem and math (until math 103 demolished me), and all the math courses up to 103 don't actually count towards the math major...they're all prereqs for the like, 10 additional math courses you need. Unfortunately levels up to 103 are required for most hard science majors, and nothing more. Physics overlaps too, but that's a prereq for both as well.

I'm not saying it's not doable, but it takes serious serious planning. I, personally, am now only a Chem major. If you have any questions about anything, send me a PM because that's EXACTLY what I was going to do. lol.
