how often do people embark on a double degree here in Umich? for example, doing aerospace engineering and say perhaps econs. or one major from Ross and College of engineering for that matter.. just how intense is it? is it possible to be acehieved? or is one walking straight into a lion's den?

You will be walking in a lions den.

Ross and the College Engineering would be too demanding. It could easily take 5 years, if not longer, to complete such a double. Econ and Engineering is more manageable, but it is still demanding. Any double major where Engineering is one of the two majors is going to be challenging. Why don’t you just focus on Aerospace Engineering, work for a few years and go for a MBA later.

How possible is Econ and Philosophy but also completing premed requirements (coming in with 5s on APs in Bio and Chem).

What if a minor in a language were added in as well?

Double majoring within the same college is not that difficult. So doubling in Econ and Philosophy should be no trouble. And if you are premed, you can take most of your elective in the sciences. However, minoring in a language on top of all that may be tough to schedule.

I think adding on the minor in language might be a little too much, unless you were willing to do classes in the spring/summer terms (which is an awesome way to knock off the language requirement if you’re paying in-state tuition and going to be on/near campus over the summer, anyways). You’d essentially be doing a triple major with Econ/Philosophy/Pre-med, and none of those three overlap that much.

You really have to ask yourself if doing more than one major is worth it. If you’re planning on going to medical school, and want to have an economics degree as a back-u/primary degree, what would you really gain by having a major in philosophy as opposed to a minor, or even just taking electives in it? The only thing you’d really get out of making it a major is a headache from trying to make your schedule work out junior and senior year…
