<p>Your parents are probably right, unless you are supremely talented and lucky. But at some schools you don’t exactly have to do a double major. If you’re at the point where you’re looking into colleges, check out programs in “arts administration.” This sort of degree prepares you to run the business end of an orchestra, art gallery, theater, etc. It’s a competitive field, and typically not very high-paying (these organizations are nonprofits, after all) but the work is interesting and rewarding for people who are already invested in the underlying art form. If you already have a favorite school, and it doesn’t offer such a program, you might be able to put the equivalent of such a major together yourself, by doing the theater/drama major you clearly prefer, plus some practical courses in accounting and economics.</p>
