Double Legacy?

If your great grand parents and then a grand parent attended cornell, does this count as double legacy or is there no such thing as double legacy?

A double legacy is usually defined as both mom and dad being alums at the undergraduate level. I don’t know to whom Cornell extends legacy preferences which is what most people want to know when it comes to definition of legacy. It usually extends to parents only, though sometimes grandparents and siblings. Graduate and professional school programs don’t count. You need to ask admissions specifically.

ok ill call today, but I doubt legacy of grandparents help, if at all during RD

^certainly less so than parent/sibling

Answered before, but legacies for Cornell are parents, grandparents, great-grandparents. Not siblings. And professional schools also count as legacies at Cornell, even if you’re applying undergraduate.

I might be wrong, but I doubt great grandparents are considered for legacy…

I might be wrong, but I doubt cornellperza is.

Wow. Then legacy goes a long way… I wish i had one :frowning:
Edit: Just checked A for admissions, they said to really be considered for that extra boost in legacy in ivy leagues, only parents truly matter. Even having legacy from grandparents is pushing it. They also favor early legacy applicants (ED).

Thanks, memphismom. : )

And yes, I’m right. Because this question keeps coming up and someone always say I’m wrong, I double-checked with admissions a while ago.

I am a triple legacy myself – both parents and a grandparent. My twin brother got in Early Decision as well, making me a “quad-legacy” (if that’s the right term haha).

To gain the full benefit of legacy status, I would have had to apply ED… but in this situation, since my brother is already going there next year, I think I still get the full benefit (but anything can happen).

Are there any other legacies on here who applied RD this year?

The Cornell supplement to the Common App specifically asks if a student has a parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent who went to Cornell. My S has a great-grandparent. He applied ED and got a “legacy letter” before he found out he was admitted. I wouldn’t think they would ask if it didn’t matter.

@IV

My child has 5 legacies (counting parents and grandparents, but excluding aunts, uncles, etc.) On-line common app only had room to list 4 (if I remember correctly).

RD app at Engineering

should your child attend, the Cornell mag will list all the legacy relatives for your child in a fall issue…

I know 2 FIFTH generation legacies (meaning at least one legacy in each generation) who had great stats and did not get in RD.
Also know two third generation legacies that did get in RD. So who knows?
