Double major at Harvard University

Hi guys I am about to apply to Harvard for class of 2024 and I want to apply for double major can someone please help me to know how can I do it cause there is no option for it in common app and I really need help.

Common app for 2020/21 opens on August 1, 2019.

Harvard does not admit by concentration (students typically declare a concentration during soph year). On the common app it asks what academic program most interests you (choice of 8, including undecided). It also gives the applicant the option of applying to a dual degree program with either New England Conservatory or Berklee College of Music. In addition to the common app, Harvard accepts the coalition app and universal college app, I’m not sure of Harvard’s academic program choices on those platforms. Good luck.

In addition to what was said above, Harvard does not allow double majors.

While it is true that Harvard does not offer “double majors,” some departments do allow joint concentrations and you can also opt to pursue a secondary field, similar to a minor.

Don’t worry about that question on the application. If you can’t decide, then flip a coin. It really doesn’t matter.

Regarding the question on the application, I wouldn’t choose an academic program if your application doesn’t support it. For example, if you’ve never shown interest in computer science in high school, wouldn’t check the Computer Science box. Be honest, check the box that you think you might be interested in now.

As other posts have said, there are no “double majors” at harvard, but you can concentrate (major) in one field plus another. Or you can concentrate in one field and then also do a secondary field (minor). Further, Harvard does not admit students based on chosen major the same way a school like Cornell or CMU would. Pick one thing you feel most aligns with your interests, and then don’t worry about it until you have to declare your concentration and devise a course of study sophomore year.

re #5, to clarify: some of Cornell’s colleges admit based on chosen major, its colleges of Arts & Sciences & Engineering do not.

Some concentrations at Harvard are interdisciplinary on their own (History and Literature, Chemistry and Physics, History and Science . . . ). In fact, Harvard says many are interdisciplinary. It’s a good idea to read through the curricula of your areas of interest - as well as the general requirements - to better understand how a degree at Harvard College actually unfolds.

I think you should just be honest.
