On the site, it says that Biomedical Engineering is only available as double major. BME is available at Carnegie Institute of Tech, but is it possible for me to have my other major at a different school? say, Mellon College of Science?

oops, I just saw the physics and mechanical thread. Guess I should read before i post, heh.

Your question is a good question- some second majors at CMU have some weird rules. BME is only available as a second major if your primary major is in CIT (engineering and public policy, also available only as a second major, doesn't count). Here's the course catalog information about BME:

wow krazykow thanks for the link!! very helpful.

No problem. If you have any more questions, I can try to answer them. I'm CS, but I have friends that are mech E/BME and ECE/BME.

Do you know what the main focus of an ECE/BME degree is? I think I found a reference to bioimaging, but wasn't entirely sure what that is either. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you can choose whatever track you want, as long as you have the prerequistes for the courses that are required. Bioimaging often (typically?) involves dealing with medical imagery, like MRIs and CAT scans. The computer science/math side sometimes involves trying to automatically identify changes in pictures taken at different times, places of interest in images, and symptoms. Computational biology, one of the courses that is required in the bioimagery track, involves turning pictures of molecules into 3D models, protein folding, analyzing genetic sequences, and all sorts of things I don't know about. There is a computational biology major (look in the catalog under intercollege) which would be worth looking at if that interests you.

Here's the course catalog; you can look up descriptions of the courses in the BME track.
