Double Major Business and Computer Science

Hey everyone! So, I’ve decided to double major in Computer Science in CAS and Business (Finance and Management & Organizations) in Stern. I am planning on taking some of the CS and extra Stern elective courses during the summer. How big of a suicide is this considering I also wanna study abroad for 3 semesters?

Which school are you in?

If you are in CAS…
You can’t officially major in any Stern business majors unless you are within the school. This is partly due to the separate core curriculum prior to the 12 credits required for a finance, management, marketing, etc. major. Nor do I think outside students are allowed to observe or take courses on a pass/fail basis (subject to professor exceptions). CAS students are able to take Stern econ courses but those are typically separate sections as they are graded differently and I think typically for CAS econ students.

There is a joint Econ/Comp Sci program for CAS students which I believe is 22 courses to complete which might be the most similar.

If you are in Stern…
You have 44 elective credits after completing the core curriculum and completing 1 business concentration. You could double major in finance and management but that will leave you with roughly 32 electives. This isn’t enough for a comp sci major but definitely enough for a minor. You could pursue the comp sci major if you completed some of your courses outside of the standard academic year. The only transferrable credits between your business and comp sci curriculum would be calc I so there isn’t much room for maneuvering.

Studying abroad for 3 semesters wouldn’t make a different as long as you are able to maximize the use of your credits at all locations. This will likely mean completing most of your business curriculum abroad as I don’t believe there is as much availability in Comp Sci offerings abroad (could be wrong).
